I dropped that little nugget of info on post #16... I'm using just shy of 8GB per month and wouldn't dream of using AT&T at this point.

I still love my Link Removed with it's slide out physical keyboard (I'm running Android 2.1 with a tweaked SDX build and a few essential utility apps) but if I needed to get a new phone this summer, it would be an EVO!!! (I've played with 2 of them now and they are real sweet) unless that new Samsung Intercept (dubbed the Moment 2 in early leaks) is on par with the EVO's hardware, but it's doubtful. Initial info shows it using lesser hardware.

I don't see why people trash AT&T. IMHO they're better than Verizon. Verizon porked me every chance they got. I constantly had to check my bill for "errors" in Verizon's favor. Plus, the service is better. The iPhone is one of the best handsets on the market. All in all I have 0 complaints. Which is more than I can say when I had Verizon.

You just have to accept it and let it go. Verizon fan-boys are much like the Mac uber-fan-boys. They are vastly superior to you in every way. For me, AT&T has the best service. For others, Verizon offers better coverage. For other still, it may be T-Mobile, Sprint, or Alltel. There is not 1 service provider that fits all bills. Just like there's no 1 bass that fits all of us here. Sometimes my iPhone doesn't get reception, but my Sprint Blackberry does. Other times the iPhone gets a great signal, and the BB doesn't get anything. And now I expect someone will come along and tell me I should ditch both for Verizon. I'll ignore it, because its not a wise move for me. Its just one of those things you're always going to catch flak over.

Well I'm with Sprint and my bill is exactly the same every month. I have great coverage everywhere I go in my day to day life.

The trashing is the recent change to their data plans that makes them EXTREMELY overpriced for anyone using a smartphone for it's data abilities. What is the average monthly data usage on your iPhone account? Will you fit the plans offered when they discontinue all the grandfathered 'unlimited data' plans over the next couple years?

My bill has been the same every month. I can't go over anything since it's all unlimited haha. Sprint doesn't work well where I'm from, so that wasn't even an option.

I'm upgrading in a few weeks, so I have to face the new plans, and in my opinion it's a solid move on AT&Ts part. I used to sell cell phones as part of my job, and a lot of people didn't like the fact that you had to get a $30 data plan for the iPhone or the $25 BB plan. Most people don't use it enough to warrant the cost. I know I don't need unlimited. I use Wi-Fi at my house, and almost everywhere else I hang out. So, I'm only using data in between those places. It's not hard to keep your usage in check. I'm on my phone a lot, but I can't imagine how much you'd have to use your phone to use 2 gigs of data. I guess if you were downloading apps and music constantly. Maybe?

I just don't see how it's an overpriced plan if it costs most people less than the original plan. Most users never even go anywhere near 1 gig. Let alone 2.

I think if anything it will make more sales for them because it is flexible unlike the old BB and iPhone plans.

Just my couple of pennies.

I use an average of about 400mb per month and I honestly feel like I use my iPhone a lot, mostly web surfing and checking email but occasionally Pandora and things like that. The highest I've ever hit over the past year or so was in December when we were traveling. In that month I got up to 1.2GB. One thing that I'm sure makes a difference is that when I'm at home my phone is always using my wifi for data instead of the cell networks. Based on my own usage (in light of the fact that I'm on the web quite a bit) and that of people I know I think that AT&T is being honest about 98% of people using less than 2GB.

Just curious - what does your daily usage look like that you are using over 8GB a month? What kinds of things are you doing for how long during the day?

You do not have to change your plan. If you're currently on an unlimited iPhone plan then you can keep that plan even if you upgrade to the new iPhone

- iPhone customers upgrading their handsets and signing new contracts will be able to continue on their existing unlimited plans. The representative noted, however, that AT&T may offer "new desirable plans" alongside the next-generation iPhone, although the comment appears to be more of general statement than a specific disclosure of the company's plans.

The crappy catch-22 though is that you cannot get an iPhone tethering plan unless you switch to the new 2GB plan. Sucks because those who are tethering are among the ones who would most need more than 2GB. :scowl:

I do use wifi at home, but where I use the data most is at the office and our public wifi is tracked / monitored / archived so I don't use it there... except to gain access to the payroll system from out in the parking lot ;)
Plus with 'unlimited', so I don't need to keep any usage in check.

As far as my usage... I run a Subsonic server at home so my phone is really a 300+GB MP3 player. It's the main reason I bought any cell phone at all... I use less than 100 minutes a month.

I've spoken to a few coworkers (professional computer geeks) and they all do over 2GB a month in data on their phones (a couple with iPhones/AT&T too).
