Well heloo there, I signed up this month so I'm new. I mostly post in off topic threads since I've only been playing for less than 2 years and my expertise is kinda limited (Forgive me, I've been lazy :() Anyway, I just wanna hang around, check out advice and give my occasional two cents. I may become a Supporting member once I figure out how this PayPal thing works. ;)

Favorite joke? here it goes. So Jesus was out walking with his apostels when they suddenly come upon a big wide river blocking their way. The apostels didn't want to get wet so they were thinking of creating a bridge made of trees, but Jesus just took a few steps over the river and then stood there in the middle of it urging his apostels to follow him. The apostels saw this and were amazed, but Judas just said. "Hell, I could do that too!" So Judas stepped onto the river and then plunges into it! And while the other apostels are laughing their asses off, Jesus walks over to Judas bends down and says: "On the stones ya moron, on the stones!" Link Removed

Well I've been here for a little while now, but I'll giva ya the intro anyway. I'm a 35 year old recovering guitarist who fell absolutely in love with the bass by accident. I was in a situation where a bass player was needed and nobody stepped up, so I filled in and had a blast with it. Went out and bought a Schecter 4 and a workingman's 12 within a week and have been playing every since.

Bass influences would be Geddy Lee, Jack Bruce, and probably a few more if I gave it some thought. Anyway, its a great site and I will become a supporting member very soon. :D

I'm very very very new. As in I signed up today.

I've been playing bass for two years and two months. I started out as a guitar player because I wanted to be cool. Then I realized that I am not cool. Not at all. So I decided to play bass instead...I went for what I loved. My bass is my baby, and I try to play every day. I'm not very good, but I'm learning, and I'm having fun.

Hi my name is Harry i've been playing bass for a year. i love my bass very much, i've got my ibanez edb 500 from my mom because i got a high score in my school ( i got it when i was in junior high school ) but anyway my mom doesn't want me to play bass anymore........ she always says that the PIANO is the best instrument

ME?

Sorry mom! i don't like piano

and altough i don't have my mom's support maybe i can have all you guys'!!!!!!:D

Well hello, TalkBass.

My name is Kevin and I just came to TB by way of some other forums this month. I'm almost 35 (don't want to admit I'm that old, don't feel it) and have been seriously pursuing the bass for the last ten years. I've played around the Boston area in a number of blues bands and am currently backing up quasi-local legend George Leh, who used to sing for the bands Powerhouse and Swallow.

I'm used to working in multiple bands at a time, so I'm hoping to pick up some more gigs. Anyone in the area wo needs a sub, drop me a line ;).

Anywho, my main rig is an Ampeg B2R mounted in an old Fender BXR300 cab with the original 15" speaker plus a SWR Workingman 2x10T extension, a '99 AmStd Jazz Bass with EMG-JV's and a SansAmp Bass Driver. The reason I play bass is because at a formative age I heard "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" on a stereo with one channel that didn't work, so all I heard was this incredible bass line that I had never heard before.

I also attempt to write original songs and attempt to record them on my Roland VS-840GX.

I enjoy checking out the forums and will occaisionally kick in my .02 if I feel I can help out, learn or rant. I like what I have seen so far, and enjoy coming back every day to see what's new.

Hi,

I'm Jason... 30 yrs old. Been playin' bass for 15 of those years. I've been looking at TB for quite a while but was too lazy to post. Since being laid off a short while ago, I magically found time! :D

When I get a new job, I'll become a supporting member. I don't know any good animal noises, and most of my favorite jokes might offend somebody, so I'll save 'em!

Thanks for the opportunity!
Jason :p

I will give an example of how nice this type of thread is. . . today I joined a Windows XP forum so I can keep up to date with all the issues that XP may have. So I join the forum and my first post is "Newbie Saying Hello" the thread gets deleted, the admin puts up a new rule in all the forums saying don't come in here just to say "Hello, this is not what this forum is for" so after I calm down I PM the guy with a "Hey you talking to me?"
And he sends me back this yes. . . blah blah blah we have to many users, not enough time for this stuff blah blah blah. So I look up how many members they have. 6 mods and 50 users.
I sent him a nice PM back saying thanks for making me feel welcome, enjoy your little world and bye.

I'm not really that new... I just hardly ever post..never posted in this type of thread ;)

I've seen all of the old guys around, I read all the posts, I just usually feel the intelligence level of the thread would drop drastically by me posting ;)

So I'll usually leave it alone.

I have 3 basses.... 1 Squiar P-Bass (starter bass), 1 Fender Jazz, and Fender Precision 5 String. (I needed the 5 for my ex band..now it just kinda sits in my closet....only bass i activly play is my Jazz.)

I have a 10 watt practice amp, and a 200 Watt Hartke Amp, along with some home made speakers ;) (I'm mexican...hehehe)

Anywayz... If I ever learn more I'll post more.

Dude after 14 years you must've layed a hell of a lot of drums.
Do you need some sort of surgery to get the bass drums out?

Anyway enough of that, the sympathy pain is starting to kill my o-ring :(

Well howdi howdi, My names.....let's just say Maurice, and I'm from Australia, 15 yrs, and lovin it. I guess you could say I'm the musical talent in the family, I played piano ever since I could walk talk and.... move my fingers.
Well after six years of pretty much being told what to play and what not to, I finally gave that away. But I couldn't stop there. The music was in my bones, and my mum, gawd bless 'er, suggested I play acoustic guitar.

Well after a year of that I started playing bass and now I'm hooked. My first bass was a pice of crap Yamaha, alright to start on considering how much I payed for it.

Well after two years of bass I've taken to it like a baboon to another baboon's....never mind.

I spose you reckon two years of bass isn't much (it isn't) but I've gotten pretty darn good, I spose the musical theory bank helped, and my fingers still have a little greased lightning residue left over, so after two years I'm doing well, and I practice about three hours a day, so it's up and up from here.

My main bass was a Cort B4, up until last saturday, when I purchased a Cort A6 (oh yeah), I can tell you I haven't put it down since.
My amp is pretty basic, 100 watt 12 inch combo. Doesn't do the low B on my 6 much justice, but I don't play any gigs or anything, so it does alright.

My favourite players are probly Jaco (hate to be unoriginal), John Entwistle, John Myung, Stu Hamm, and Marcus Miller.

I'm learning tapping, that's goin pretty well

Well crap, I think you know all there is to know about me, that's all I have left

Thanks for all the help over the last however many months fellas, this site rocks

-Maurice

My name is Guy. I'm 31 and have played the bass since 18. Before that I spent many years playing classical music, but when I got to college I decided I just wanted to rock.

I'm currently playing with two bands in the Washington DC area : Kharmel and Walnut Grove Band.
