Hello everyone,
I've been a drummer since I was 13 so for 18 years. Played for Jazz, Blues, Rock bands and also a big band in school. Learning bass now and enjoying it. Diggin all them funky sounds. sticking with the rythum section cause we all know who gets the chicks and it aint no lead guitar (also tired of carting around all the gear). enjoy the sight lots. really enjoying the tabs. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi everyone!

My name is Daniel and I'm 23. I've been playing bass for almost 4 years now. Before bass I'd played saxophone for about 7 years in high school jazz band and in college. I had originally switched to guitar but thought that at Christian college everyone would play guitar. So, I went out and bought a bass. That turned out to be a great decision. Right now I sometimes play at church and just started taking lessons again last week. I plan on being it a jazz combo at college this next semester. I love listening to Jaco, Sting, Patitucci, DiPiazza, Coltrane, Bird, Miles and am getting into Ray Brown.

Talk bass is so awesome. In the time I've spent going through the pages here I've learned and been inspired. I've been to other forum sites and the content really has lacked. I'm very thankful that we have moderators keeping us on topic.

And, very importantly, I JUST GOT ENGAGED YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!
:D

Alright, I'll break the seal on this one. I stumbled in here via Mike Watt's 'Hoot' page about a month ago. I've been playing bass, albeit rather badly, for about 16 years or so. I'm self-taught, so I figure I might be able to pick up some information here on how to really play the thing. So far, I'm impressed with the place. Very well moderated, and the flaming is kept to a minimum. Seems to be full of some pretty cool people. Unfortunately, I think you may be stuck with me, as I'm enjoying it so far.

Okay, now you can all point and laugh at the stupid newbie.:)

Well, here goes.... My name is Russell and I'm an al.... Ooops, wrong place.

I guess that I'm not really new to this board, but if you look at my post count, you can see that I'm not too active in posting here. I mostly look around and read various threads and learn everything that I can. Also I realize that many of the people here know a hell of a lot more than me when it comes to gear, technique, critiques, etc.

So anyway, I find that Talkbass is an excellent resource for everything that has to do with bass, because all of it comes from fellow bassists, of all nationalities, playing abilities, and ages.

So here's my small message to Paul, as soon as I get a credit card (or even a checking account for that matter) I'll most likely become a supporting member.:)

Been here 2 months now, but haven't officially said 'hi'.

So... 'hi'. :p

Oh, introduce myself?? Ok. I finally checked this place out when another forum was having server issues. I've been playing part-time for 25 years (includes 4-year hiatus in the late 90's). Decided to try 5-string 2 years ago and fell in love... been GASsing up my tank with 'em ever since (as best I can). I play a couple weekends a month with Bad Weather Boyz, a blues/R&B/classic rock band featuring my brother (the true musician of the family) on g****r.

I play in another band that plays hard rock/alternative/punk, covers and originals... and "musical impersonations". For example: we play Judas Priest's "You Got Another Thing Comin'" as if it was played by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I laugh when we annoy the metalheads. We also play a version of America's "Horse With No Name" as if played by Black Sabbath. I laugh when we annoy the folkies. It should go without saying that this band doesn't get many gigs. :D

Ok I'm Brad and I heard about Talkbass in my first semester just for tabs and then one day curiousity got the best of me and I went venturing into the forums. Sorry if I tend to have a few typos in my posts, my room mate sleeps a lot so I tend to screw up while typing in the dark. Also I started playing on a Double Bass (stand up) about 6 years ago, so I'm constantly trying to pick up on the technological aspects, since I only use my bass guitar now. But anyway that's me.

In response to John Turners invitation — "Hi!" I've been her before, briefly visiting as I manically followded one link to another and yet another, searching for the key to perfect tone between my Fender American Deluxe P-Bass and my Hartke 2000 with the 4.5 XL metal cones (am I gonna have to get heavier g-strings or another amp...and what about Peavey anyway.Never owned one, but the little ones I've played through at the music stores sure seem to have a surprisingly tight, focused sound...or perhaps I was trying to figure out what kind of multi-effects pedal to buy...Last night I read lots of opinions about how multi wasn't even the way to go...writers preferring a limited number of pedals, usually involving an EBS model of some sort...now, there's something else I don't know much about...like mids ...what are they all about anyway...and how can I hear myself on stage in low or high volume situations...without making my G-string all brappy again...Ah, it's a circle, and there's so much to learn, which is kind of zen when you think about it, and besides I'm figuring some of it out with my son, a really good drummer, guitarist, bassist, TUBA player, who read like a pro and to whom I can show a thing or two. Anyway, lest Mr. Turner regret this old newbie taking him up on his invite...I will cut myself off and say that I am glad to be in the company of fellow bass players, who have so little axe to grind, yet sure know how to grind it out. (forgive the hyperbole, advertising is my day job).

hi, i'm Eric. i've been here for a few months, but i don't really have time to post much. i just do a lot of reading. since i'm too poor to afford a teacher, and my school doesn't teach anything about bass guitar, i've just been comeing here and reading things ever since i started playing in september. this site has basically tought me everything i know about bass, and playing bass, and now i'd like to try and make some time and start posting more, put my input into the forum, and try to give a little back to the wonderful site that's given me so much!:)

Not being a complete newbie on bassguitar (I play for about 7 to 8 years now), I started looking around on the net for information on a new bassguitar. So I stumbled on Talkbass...
I got the bass (Warwick Thumb 4) about a month ago, so I guess I found the site more than two months ago now...

Strange, I always felt surfing around for bassinfo on the net a waist of time (preferring playing instead), but now I'm checking this site every day!

I'm still in the fase of looking around and learning what's already on the site, but I hope to be posting more soon.

As for the bass: I never had any training at all, learned basically everything by myself. But I play in a band from the minute I picked it up, and still play in the same one (some people in it changed though). We play mostly instrumental, some kind of self-made mix of rock, surf, lots of jazz (technically, we're in fact not able to play real jazz, but we try...), some Balkan, Klezmer, Arabic influences... About everything we listen to is somewhere in our music, trying to keep it fun and varied. We play only our own compositions, since creating the music is maybe more important to us than playing that particular instrument (although I love the bass of course). Everyone are good friends (no anoying guitarplayers here), we rehearse twice a week, and we are having more fun than ever before.

But I decided that I need more technique, and some guidance to acquire it, so on wednessday (tomorrow!), I'll have my first basslesson! I'm quite excited about it...
I never thought of taking lessons while I was in university because of the money, but now I'm working I can pay it. Yihaaaa!

And as for my name: it is the same one as my username... So far for my coolness...

So, greetings from Belgium, and thanks for an excellent forum!

Marijn

I'm pretty new here, have maybe been here for two or three months. I first found the site when I was looking for TaBZ and used it only for that for some time. Then I found the forums, hoo boy. I've learned more by just checking out the forums than ever by just playing and checking an occational internet guide. Granted I haven't been playing for that long, but still.

I'd like to thank all the people who contribute to this forum. It's great to always have your advice and experience there.

Having been here only about two months now, I suppose I still qualify as a newbie, although I think I must be at 200 posts by now (hey, I get kinda bored at work sometimes...).

Anyway, I'm 23, work for the Government of Canada, and try to listen to every kind of music that I can stomach (ie, not Christina Alligator).

I've been playing electric bass for about nine years in all sorts of different bands. I've gotten into teaching and repairs as well the past few years. I've played upright a couple of times and enjoyed it, but I can't afford one!

TB is without a doubt the best resource I have ever seen, and I will be supporting it as soon as I can get my lazy butt down to the bank to get an MO :p

Also glad to see some fellow theoryaholics here. I'd only ever met one other one before (??!!! A guitarist, of all things!!!!!!!).

Well, thanks for the welcome JT, and I know you've probably heard this a jillion times before, but... that is ONE HECK OF A !#!^@ COOL AXE (OR IS IT AXES?)

Hehe I also have to say that Chris and Ed rule!!!

well alright, my name is Ben (Been-Jamming to some) and i got on this website because my friend russell (acepiloto) told me about it, plus i suck and everyone on here seems to be better than me. anyway, i look forward to a long life on talkbass and rock on...i'm pretty full of it so you might see lots of posts from me. Until then, have fun cause that's the most important thing...
