Since I never formally introduced myself....

I am SpankBass, but you can call me Spanky. Everyone else does, and they don't know it secretly hurts in side (:( ). I play bass second to only one instrument: The triangle. I play lead triangle in a punk band, we're hardcore.

Now you know more about this funny little muddle known as Spanky.

Hi everyone.

Been posting on the board for a month or two without any formal introduction.

My name is Bob, I am 37 years old, and have been playing bass for 22 years, but by no means a pro.

Picked up the 5 string 2 yeras ago and love it.

Currently possess the following gear:

Amps - Peavey Max Pre-Amp, Carver PM-350 Power Amp, Carvin R1000, and a Peavey Mark IV.

Cabs - Ampeg SVT1540HE, Acoustic Colaborative Series 1X18 (loaded with a Cerwin Vega speaker), Carvin V115, Peavey 210TX.

Basses - B.C. Rich Eagle, Warlock, Mockingbird, and Ironbird. Ibanez SR405, Dean Edge Q5.

Must say by reading the posts that I am learning as much as I am posting back. Thanks everyone.;)

Howdy Y'all!

I think I found this place via Google and/or Watt's little page.

I started playing around 1980 and, like a chump, sold all my precious stuff 5 years ago. I bought a new bass and amp 3 years back... but I bought the amp in haste (mid 70's Yamaha) and it has since been put to the curb for bulk pick up. 3 weeks ago I dug my bass out of the closet and went to the local store with it to find an amp. I came home with a set of DR's and a microbass. Now I'm looking long and hard at a Peavy Combo 300 at the local pawn shop for $250 so I can sit in with a drummer. I've made contact with some of my old jammin' buddies and they can't wait for me to swing by :)

I'm glad to be here

This is so cool! So many new people. Very cool. Now I'm not the only one.

My name's jazzbo, but most people call me A-Rod, which I don't mind so much, but I don't make as much money as the other A-Rod. Anyhoo, I play bass, tee-hee, I guess that's why we're all here. Christine Fitzgerald referred me here. She said I would like it. I don't know anything about gear, so don't ask me any questions about that stuff. Maybe I'll learn something about it while I'm here. Like what an "ohm" is, or whatever.

You guys have a nice place here. The OT moderators seem like jerks, but other than that, everyone is really really nice.

Oh yeah, I like jazz.

Found the place looking for tabs...(Sorry) And have enjoyed the candor of the supporting and obviously experienced bassist here. I am a brand spanking new player...like 2 months...building up the calouses though. (Is numbness normal?) Anyway...look for my new album on the shelves soon!

Thanks!

So here's where all the new people are. I've been wandering around the halls lost.

I'm Roark up der in Minnesoootaa der, you betcha.

I've been a drummer/percussionist for 30+ years and have just taken up the bass. I love it. I've always had an affinity for the low end. I like most types of music (except pre-fab, bubble-gum, backstreet out-of-sync boys type music). I would like to learn to seriously walk at a high tempo some day (woodshed, woodshed, woodshed).

Lead guitarists and singers would just have to stand around and look at each other without bass and drums.

BTW, these new calluses on my fingers are really screwing up my typing. What's up with that?

Well, I don’t know if I’m really a newbie, but I don’t know if I ever introduced myself. So… let me introduce myself. I am creepy. I probably should have chosen a better screen name. I think that names like ‘creep’ and such tend to put people on edge and then any attempt at humor, especially dry humor does not translate well into text. So I’m sure more than once I thought I’d try to be funny and came off looking like a jerk. My purpose in posting this is to give due respect to the many kind, helpful and intelligent members and moderators that make this place happen and have given me so much. I have learned a lot from reading these forums. I came to this place with a bass guitar and a dream. Talk bass has taught me how to go about making my dreams a reality. You won’t be ‘hearing’ from me much in the future because of my new found humbled attitude. I realize that with my limited level of experience I don’t have much to contribute that couldn’t be better said by someone else. As far as posting my questions, they will now all be directed to my bass teacher. Thanks to all and may the groove be with you!

Hi um wassup dood..

man, this site blows me away. how killer is this set-up? so easy to use. it seem like an excellent community of talent & knowledge.

Glad to be a part of it. My name is Kristoffer Carter. I play bass and sing in a sax/bass/drums trio called STANKFuT out here in Los Angeles. It's a primus meets the police meets morphine kind of a thang. I also do a lot of solo acoustic/looped out stuff on guitar (shhh don't tell).

What else, I play SWR stuff exclusively. I have my Mo'Bass shirt on today like a geek. The Mo' Rocks. It's run through a Goliath III on top, and an (unbalanced in ohms - yikes!) Triad on the bottom. It's a big scary thing. My basses are 2 Yamaha TRB 6P's, fretted and fretless. Woodsy's music in Kent Ohio did a killer de-fret on my blue beauty. I love my basses, aside from the crappy stereo jacks that always seem to need replaced mid-tour- All is right with the world. I'm really looking forward to chatting it up with y'all and expanding my bass horizons. If you want to hear something really bass driven and fresh, check out Invalid Link Removed
my solo stuff is at Invalid Link Removed

THANKS FOR THE WELCOME JOHN. VERY COOL. See you on the boards.

Well, I'm semi-new, but I've never done an introduction. So...

My name's Pete. I'm a late-30's former musician/recording engineer, who left it to become a mechanical engineer, marry, have a family, etc. Originally from NYC, now for the past 10 years from Rochester NY.
I am currently bassless, and hurting for the lack of that unique interaction of playing in a band, as well as the sheer love of playing the instrument. I hope to be buying one soon, as soon as I convince myself that I'll get enough time with it to make it worthwhile. In the meantime, I am re-educating myself about instruments, and spending far too many lunch hours in music stores.
I also play keyboards.
I found the site via mentions in another bass digest. I really like the site and the people. Cheers to all!

Hi John. My name is Dan. I'm a Bassaholic. I haven't got as many as you but I'm trying. I had a visit with Bill Conklin a couple of months ago and he showed me your new 8 string. I wanted to pick it up and play it but decided not to cause I wouldn't want some dude playing my stuff before I could! I spent most of the time there taking with a guy who plays Bill basses and playing on that hollow-body 7!! What a SOUND!! I love your stuff.
Later,
Dan...
