Hi. My name is Larry and I've been here a little over a month. This place is great! I stumbled upon it via a Yahoo search and joined immediately! About me: I've been playing bass about 26 years now, since jr. high school (you can figure out from that I'm old!). I have many different interests, as you may note from some of my posts. This is the first board I've been in and I beg for your indulgence as I learn the protocol. Thank you.

It's summer and I'm a school teacher. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a member for two weeks and this site is addictive. (Just ask my wife)

I live in an area with two music stores within a twenty mile radius. I could buy Fender Squire stuff all day long. It's been great getting feedback on quality merchandise. I need to have my ducks in a row so when I do go to the big city I'll know what I'm talkin' bout.

Remember, Great tone is fundamental...........or is it fun to meddle with?

Great feedback from all posters. I've really learned quite a bit in these two weeks. I hope to help someone else eventually.

Bring on the biscuits (and gravy)

Hey hey hey!

Been reading the forums here at TB for about a month now and I'm learning lots of useful things.

I started playing music in 5th grade when I decided I wanted to play drums. I took a year of lessons, and then our school made us take a test before we could join the concert band in middle school. I scored higher on melody than I did rythm, and they told me that I couldn't play drums and that I had to play a wind instrument. So I chose trumpet. It was a good choice, and I became a decent player. I enjoyed playing in jazz bands from 6th grade through my sophomore year in college and always thought it would be really cool to learn to play the bass guitar. After graduation and finding a job, I went out and spent some of my first paychecks on a beginner bass rig. Not excellent gear (DeArmond Pilot Plus 4-string and a Crate BFX25 combo amp), but it got me started. Just recently bought an ESP Ltd. B-205 because I wanted to learn some songs that I couldn't play on my 4, and wanted to get a bit of a nicer bass.

I like most kinds of music, but prefer rock and jazz. I usually don't listen to country music. I'm usually pretty open minded when it comes to music that is new to me, but the one musician that I refuse to listen to is Bjork. That stuff makes me want to fill my ears with cement. Favorites of mine are RHCP, RATM, Alice in Chains, STP, Metallica and the like. I also like Wynton Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Dizzy, Jon Faddis, amongst other jazz players (mostly trumpet since that's what I played most of my life).

Just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself. Thanks for a great forum community. :D

Hello my name is Drew. Im farely new at POSTING here but have been reading posts for almost a year and a half. Whoever said this site is addicting is right. I spend most of my time on this site reading through many posts and hopefully hoping some people.
I play in 3 bands. My punk one which I play bass and sing in. We play mostly Bad Religion covers.
My Deep Purple/The Who/AcDc cover band is the funnest band ever to play in. Its just plain fun. I play bass and sing in this one too. My third band is a reggae band. I just lay down the groove and stay back from to much blazing up the fret board. Unfortunately this band is pretty much dormant. We havent played in God knows how long.

So thats me. Not to interesting.

Hi everyone!

Im pretty new here; probably only a month or two, and I have to say that its the greatest.

I love comming here and have even set it as my home page so that whenever I go online this is teh first thing I see.

This site is great- everyone is friendly and helpful, and its so well moderated that even a drummer or guitarist could pass without any serious injury.

I was reffered to here by Darrin Huff after asking for some info on building basses.

Im fairly active with posting, and have started a few threads.

Im just curious, how do I see how many threads ive posted?

Well thanks for everything.

Peace
Nick

P.S.- Killer axe JT!! (all of them, but the doubleneck beast specifically)

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty new to posting here, but I've been lurking about TB for a couple months now. I'm a painter (artistic kind, not house), and I play bass as a side activity. Not exactly the best career choices financially, but the bills usually get paid.

I've been playing bass for a little over six years now. I recently purchased a Conklin GT-BD7, but other than that my gear is pretty lame. I like just about all kinds of music, barring country and most modern pop (I love Bjork though, sorry).

This site's been wonderful to me so far. I've researched equipment, found tabs and links to bass-related sites, all sorts of things. And the regular posters like Brad Johnson, John Turner, Embellisher, etc. are always helpful to all of us new guys.

So that's my hi. HI!

Howdy!

Been prowling around for several months now, but never felt I could add to any conversation until now!

I started off with various cheapo basses in the early '80's until a few summers of moving furniture allowed me to buy an '84 Alembic Spoiler. This was my one and only until last year when I splurged on a Yamaha TRB-5P. The Yamaha's neck is huge compared to ol' Betsy!

Could any of you guys provide me with the links on string types (you know, nickel vs. stainless, etc) with specifics on 5 strings if you can. I haven't found a set of strings that I like yet for the 5 stringer.

Thanks and glad to be aboard!:)

How's it going all?

My name is Dave and I'm from central CT. I'm totally new to the bass (only been playing for 2 months), but I'm hopelessly hooked on playing. There should've been a surgeon general's warning on the box! ;)

I've been going to lessons for a month now, using Chuck Rainey's "Complete Electric Bass Method". This book has helped my sight-reading skills to solidify quickly.

I have an el-cheapo Squier P-Bass that came in one of those starter packs. I want to replace it, especially after playing some of the basses at G****r Center, but don't know how long I should wait before I do so.

The theory lessons I've found on this board are excellent, including Jazzbo's chord theory and Gard's circle of 5th's. Hopefully one day I will understand it some. :)

Thanks again for this awesome board.

Thanks Embellisher!

Thats not the first time your post have helped me.

I was actually referring to how some people have it posted on their threads near their name, but I just wanted to know for the sake of knowing how many Ive posted.

I cant believe I didnt think of that though.

Thanks again.

Peace
Nick
