I'm Joseph, I've played bass for about 12 years (I can never remember exactly when I upgraded from guitar :))

I play mainly doom and progressive metal, bands like Opeth, My Dying Bride, Therion, Dark Tranquility and Agalloch being among my favorites.

I'm also in school (take 2) as a music major hoping to eventually go into recording adn developing sound for the video game industry (where I worked for a number of years before being laid off in 2003).

Oh yeah, I live in Maryland and have lots of cats.

Just a short introduction, Im from Ontario Canada and have been playing bass for about one month now, I also play guitar but have found an instrument I really love, in the bass guitar. :D When Im not playing bass :bassist: or working, my time is spent drawing and painting.

I’ve been playing bass in contemporary Christian bands “CCM” for about 15 years now. I love playing at church, at coffee houses, outdoor events, whatever. I’m currently not in a band, they seem to only last a year or two, but am helping some friends I’ve made along the way with live and studio work. I currently have 3 bass guitars a old Guild Madrea, Tacoma acoustic bass, and an Ibanez SR400. I play through Avatar cabinets, Ampeg B2R, Bass Pod XT Pro as a preamp “sometimes”. I’m getting ready to add a Music Man 5 string Bongo with double hum buckers to my collection.

Well, Im Portuguese, 27yrs old, lived in Australia(Syd,NSW) for 10 years, now back to Lisbon,Portugal :scowl:

Started out as a Drummer, gave that up for lack of space, and played guitar for about 8 years, then got into bass a few years ago, and I think this is the ONE that Im gonna stick with. Love it.

I play a little of everything like Rock, alternative, Metal, Funk, Blues, etc... Just not much into Jazz or Classical, apart from that, it all rolls.

Recently bought a Fender Classic 60's 1 piece alder Sunburst JB that I love and is gonna stick with me for a Loooooooong time .

Hi Domokun, welcome to talk bass! :hyper:
I'm kinda new here as well and from Scotland. From what I've seen looking through these posts, this is the best resourse for basses on the internet! From buying your first bass to perfecting the right set up, reviews on most upgrades you can make to your bass and even short excercises to speed up your fingerwork!

Basically you have struck gold my young padawan :ninja:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81832

This is the thread where everyone shows off their basses. You have to start half way through because a lot of the links are dead but there are some lovely pieces of wood in there. Wide variety and if you dont have a dream bass you will by the time you have finished looking through some of these!

Enjoy

I've been hanging about on talkbass for awhile now (about 3 weeks) so I figured I better get with the program and post on this monster thread.

I've been playing bass for about 9 years and my influences are Geddy Lee, John Myung, Steve Harris etc. I'm a huge progressive metal head Symphony X, Dream Theater, Evergrey, etc. You can check out my prog metal band at [admin edit: porn site link deleted :( ]. By the way if you know any drummers in the San Pedro area who like prog metal PM me. (Especially you San Pedro folks). And yes I do commute from Orange to practice in Pedro. What can I say - there aren't too many people out there who know who Michael Lepond is... but I really love this stuff.

My stage rig bassically consists of a Bass Pod Pro XT with QSC PLX 3402 power amp (yep that's a lot of power) run through an Ampeg PR-410 (which I've modified a bit so it's actually about 190 lbs :help: ) with a Modulus Q5 (which I totally love although you TB's have me gassing for all sorts of other stuff).

I've read a number of posts about guys selling their stuff or getting bored of playing bass. All I can say is please don't make the mistake I did of putting down the bass (for 4 years). Keep it metal :bassist:

Since everyone was being so friendly, I thought I`d drop in, say hi, and even get my first post count :D

I hail from Norway (hi y`all to everyone from up north!), and I`ve only been playing the bass for 2 months. I started playing because I`ve spent the past couple of years programming music with software synths and such, and thought it was about time I taught myself a proper instrument. I quickly realised that the bass is the most interesting instrument out there, and so, here I am!

Hmm, is it a good sign that I spend more time surfing TB than I do with my bass guitar ;) ?

Hey all.. I have just discovered the fun of these forums... oh the happiness.
I live in Mebourne Australia, and am only a little'ee i guess you could say, im 16. Im a full time student with aspirations that change weekly! I have only been playing bass guitar for about 7 months now so i am hoping this forum will be a major help for me!
I have played music previously, flute for 6 years, but gave up after some conflicting actions.
So getting back into music has been a huge deal for me! Im still finding it hard to adjust with all the symbols, but i have a overly patient teacher... ( I dont know why he is)
I have one particular song that i heard and thought .. 'bass is what i want to play'... its Van Morrison 'Moondance'... I have no idea why, but hey, im not complaining, i am loving bass!
Im not in a band as yet.. I like to just bop along to with some mates occasionally, but i dont think i have enough confidence to get up with other yet:D
Anyways .. thats the story of me.. soo far
Stay tuned
L :bassist:

I am new to the bass World so I figured I would check this site out. I have been playing guitar for around 12 years and just now started playing bass. I just bought a an old used Bass which has D.C curly stamped on the head stalk. Can anyone tell me anything about this bass? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all. I've been playing bass for the last 19 years. I used to play throughout San Diego and some Orange County(Chris Torres Band for the locals). Just recently moved to DC/NoVa area, and just started with a new band.

My current combo is a 95 Fender Jazz (American) and an Ampeg SVT Classic through 4x10 and 1x15 Ampeg half stacks.

I'm new here at Talkbass! Been on Harmony Central for about 2 years.............................anyway........

Been playing BASS for 26 years. Not interested in much else. Currently involved in the pre-production of a rock opera in LA called 'Evel Knievel-The Rock Opera' (Link Removed ) and jammin' every weekend in San Diego county with the Clay Colton band (www.claycolton.com ) . My first big influnce at age 14 was Geddy Lee. Closely follwed by JPJ, Entwistle, Rutherford, Wetton, Squire, Mars Cowling, Rocco Prestia, Larry Graham, etc ad nuaseum!!! I currently use a Demeter HBP-1 preamp, a Line 6 Bass POD Pro XT, and my good ol' SWR SM-400 bought in 1990. I have a couple of QSC amps (PLX-3402 and RMX-850). I use any combination of two Aguialr GS-212 cabs, one Avatar B210, or my old Carvin 410.

I have a Ric. 4003, a Pedulla MVP Deluxe with Demeter pre on-board, Fender Jazz Aerodyne with EMG active's on board, new Gotoh bridge, Hipshot Ultralight tuners, and black knobs. All that black makes this bass sound sooooooo good!!! (It actually is a very decent playing and sounding bass!). Oh, where was I?? I play a Carvin LB-75 Claro Walnut 5 string, a Warwick Corvette Standard fretless w/EMG actives and BTC control system. A Carvin LB-90 fretless, and my old Ibanez mUsician MC-824!! And................I do bomb disposal for a living. Next job is up in the high desert at Ft. Irwin, CA, clearing a path for fiber optic cable trenching. Fun fun! Anyway, that's all for now........................cool forum!!!
