My name is Dave Eichman. I joined TB back in June of 2003. That's when I started playing again after quitting for 7 years. Don't ask. Some of us do stupid things at times in our lives. I only recently started posting. I work tons of hours running a car dealership so I don't get to spend a lot of time here. I play in a band called .end of story in Wichita, KS, home of now arrested BTK killer, thank God! I feel right at home here at TB. If I had one wish it would be to go back in time and not sell out to the money/day gig. My long term goal is to clear the debt so I can devote more time to music. Thanks for allowing me to ba a part of TB.

What can I say - there aren't too many people out there who know who Michael Lepond is... but I really love this stuff.

My stage rig bassically consists of a Bass Pod Pro XT with QSC PLX 3402 power amp (yep that's a lot of power) run through an Ampeg PR-410 (which I've modified a bit so it's actually about 190 lbs :help: ) with a Modulus Q5 (which I totally love although you TB's have me gassing for all sorts of other stuff).

I've read a number of posts about guys selling their stuff or getting bored of playing bass. All I can say is please don't make the mistake I did of putting down the bass (for 4 years). Keep it metal :bassist:

I have been trying to play a guitar for a year, it has been work and not natural at all. I figured it was because I'm 55. A few weeks ago I picked up a Bass it feels so natural like I may get so great fun out of it. :bassist: I have been exploring this forum it seems cool so far. Right now I have a Fender Jazz 4 w/ Duncan Pickups and an old Peavey Dyna Bass that is really beat up but sounds great. I am playing through a Vamp and headphones til I find a amp.

Figured I'd give this a go, I signed up a couple weeks ago. The name's Tim, as you might have guessed, and I'm a college student in Pennsylvania. I've been playing bass for about 2 and a half years now, although recently I have been letting it slip a bit because of my academic responsibilities. Hopefully I'll find the time to turn this around. I'm primarily a rock/metal guy, although I love the blues and classical music as well. See you around.

Just joined a couple weeks ago, so I figure I should get on this thread. I'm a 37 year-old professional bassist, been playing 20 years now; currently working in Branson, Missouri (like Vegas would be if Ned Flanders was running it). I started playing professionally at about 19 in Miami. Miami gave me the chance to work with some great musicians. I got to salsa with Celia Cruz, Larry Harlow, Ismael Miranda, and others. I had the opportunity to play with Larry Coryell, Michael Gerber, Robert Thomas, Jr. (from Weather Report), Randy Byrnsen (sp?), Ira Sullivan, and a host of other great jazz players who really taught me humility.

Finally, I got hooked up with Othello Molineaux; Jaco's steel pan player, who just happens to live in Miami. I met him through a mutual acquaintance, and I has the distinct honor of working with him for about 3 1/2 years. This was quite a learning and humbling experience, and you can imagine the massive shadow to live in. I had the further honour of recording his debut album "It's about time". For various reasons,I left Miami in '93 and eventually hooked up with some great players on a cruise ship. Stayed on that ship for about 3 years; it was a pretty exceptional cruise ship gig. Eventually, the whole band got hired to be the house band for "Legends in Concert", a Vegas-based impersonator show. Been with the company 8 years now, and I am now currently the Music Director on the gig. 6 days a week I back up Elvis, The Blues Brothers, Elton John, you name it. Cheesy? Often, but it's a nice variety and the people are friendly, and the pay is good & steady (nothing to dismiss in this day and age), and we DO get to rock out with minimal interference from the suits.

Not the most artistically satisfying gig out there, but I do like being a homeowner and having a steady paycheck without being on the road. Beats digging ditches. It helps keep your chops up playing 25-30 hours a week, but it's also rough on the muse.

ok, not that new (how many posts before you are no longer a newbie?) but anyway.

My name is Pete, im a lefty bass player. Been playing for 20 years, started when I was 9. I live in Adelaide, which is a city in Australia.

I play all kinds of music, currently studying jazz, for my own interest.

I'm an Aries, I call a spade a shovel, and I don't mind talking my mind - gets me into trouble, but at least you know where you stand with me.

I play a sweet MIJ Jazz, which I think is the most lovely Jazz i have ever played. it will not be sold or traded - its a lefty after all!!

Got a MM Stingray 5 on the way to complete my GAS needs (to date)

Well hello. I'm new. And I do mean NEW. (my first post here). Not just new to these forums, but also new to the Bass-scene. I've been playing for a total of eight(!) dayson my left-handed Yamaha. 14 years old, I live near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands (that little piece of land which likes to be called "a country"). the past eight days I've had quite a progress, with self-studies and all. Looking for nice sheet-music to help kill time... what can I say more? Hi.

I'm thinking of attempting to learn bass, and this seemed the best site for info and advice.

I'm a 21 year old girl from the UK, I have never even picked up a bass in my life! My only musical experience is a year learning guitar when I was 10... so I guess that doesnt really count? For some reason I have been thinking about bass for a while, and recently my boyfriend has been putting ideas into my head! I said I would think about learning the basics just so they have someone to practice with.....

Any advice or just reassurance would be greatly appreciated! especially from female players, I'd love to know what people's attitudes towards girl bassists are!

also... is 21 a bit late to start?

Well, I just recently (last Thursday) got my XB100 Washburn Bass last Thursday, and I was searching through the internet to find a helpful forum and I found this! I've already found some useful stuff like finger excersizes and stuff. I've seen some videos if different members playing their bass and all I can say is "wow". Heh, I hope I can become that good.

Hi everyone,

Name's Jon, I've been playing for 18 years. Can't read a note of music, but I'm looking to change that. I've always been able to pick things up incredibly fast by ear, but that only gets you so far. Actually, this summer I'm going to attend the National Guitar Workshop and hopefully get exposed to different styles and pick up some great ideas to work with.
Never played professionally, but I currently belong to a jam band that gets together once a week and has a blast. www.devilsadvocate.tv
