Hi all. Longtime lurker, infrequent poster. I'm a Leo, I love dogs ....hehe.
I've been playing guitar for 14yrs and bass for 10yr. Right now I play a Dean edge 5st fretless thru a Peavey mark III head, a crate practice amp, and whatever other speakers I "macguyver" together. I also have a 4st bass collection (temp in pieces)and an 11 yr old mockingbird(guitar).

I live in O-town and can say firsthand that Bass Central is a nice place, unlike the rest of muggy Orlando..

Big wheel, I was 15-16 in 1987. I had a Kramer Striker, A Marshall lead 100(4x10) and NO idea how fast time flies...I'll be 29 in Aug!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Tulsa, OK. I'm 31 and have been playing around at playing bass for about 11 years or so. Got more serious about it over the last four years and am really into it now.

I play an EB5 custom five. My band is made up of some family and friends and we play a lot of 60's eaarly 70's rock, swing country, bluegrass, blues and some rockabilly.

I know absolutely jack shirt about music theory or reading notation. I probably have a hundred bad habits and play purely by ear although I do know what keys I'm in (most ot the time he he...) and somehow have a pretty good sound. Very heavily influnece by blues and early rock. LOVE to take my bass for a walk during a groove.

These days, I am trying to expand my techniques and abilities beyond the stuff I play all the time. Cool site. Lots in neat insights into different styles and musical influence.

Trueeee.... My name is Christian, I'm from Miami. I play a Tobias Growler (Gibson) and just recently boutght a Super Redhead (The Funk).

I picked up the bass when I was in the Marines but didn't get serious about it until I got out. Now I'm 26 and just finally getting a handle on this thing after I wasted 3-4 without a good teacher. But doors are opening up for me now. It's all good!!!

I visit this site about 10-15 times a day from work. Whenever I need to make a decsion I check out what people on TB say first and then take it from there.

I'm going to be attending Full Sail (for Recording) out of Orlando in Sept. And hopefully be able to produce some stuff in the near future. Who know's maybe some of the stuff on here.

Peace,

Christian

Hi I'm Billy Bob I'm 14. I just started playing bass a month or so ago. I play rock easy stuff like rage and some black sabbath and and also arpeggios (I'm taking lessons) My idol is Flea which might piss people off because some people here hate him but I also really like Jaco. Now people will get mad because I like Flea more than Jaco. Just keep in mind that I didn't say he was better, because he isn't. I have a Squier Bass Pack (Squier P Bass, 15w amp, Gig bag and strap).

Thanks for the opportunity! I was new to talkbass and to computers at the same time, and didn't really know how to act. My name's Barry Root, and I've been playing since I was 11, which was about 1965. I'm strictly an amateur, although I was in a band in the 80's which made a small splash in NYC, called the Ordinaires. I like a lot of different kinds of music but the music I make at home is sort of Velvet Underground meets Charles Ives, or something like that. I also play in my church from time to time. I think Talkbass is great, I've really learned a lot.
In real life i'm a children's book illustrator. Some of you might have even had some of my books read to you...

Howdy!

I'm Dave, 34 years old, born n' bred in Texas but live in Phoenix now, and have been playing off and on since I was 15. My first bass was a no-name Hofner Beatle bass lookalike, and I think I played it thru a Gorilla combo amp. These days I play a brand-spankin-new Rickenbacker 4003 (got it yesterday!). I use a Peavey Mark IV head on a Sunn 6x12 cabinet full of Celestions. My neighbors hate me, but hey, it's mutual.

I haven't played in a band since high school, but I like to jam with friends occasionally, and mostly just play to relax.

I like to play all kinds of stuff - classic rock, metal, ska, punk, blues, light jazz, easy listening, whatever suits my mood at the moment I pick up my axe.

I came to TalkBass thru an ebay auction (for a Rick, of course) ad, and man, am I glad I did. What a great forum for all manner of bassists. I'm real glad to be here, and look forward to being around for a long time!

Hi my name is Nick, and I'm 19. I live in Los Angeles California, and have for my entire life. I have been playing bass for 2 weeks, been playing on my own bass for 2 days. I also play piano, harmonica, and guitar (although I only play guitar well). I play mostly blues and jazz, but also dabble in classic rock, ska, punk, and rockabilly. Talkbass is just about the greatest place I have ever found on the net. Glad to be here. Well I think that is all the important info.

Hello TB! Name's Craig, call me Trav or Traveler, I'm 16 from northwest Arkansas. I have a 6-string Warwick, early 90s model, and, my fav, a 4-string Alvarez with a beatiful purple finish. I know, sounds lame that a newbie comes in bragging bout how good his bass looks, but cut me a little slack okay? Been playing for a little over two years now, just got my 6-string 2 weeks ago. I love the low D, and I love extending my scales to include the high C. Im not your normal music lover, if you all like the same music that is liked around here. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Slipknot, etc. etc. etc. Perhaps on occasion I will listen to them, but I do think new rock bands are highly overrated. My bag is blues baby, down and straight black as you can get it blues baby! Robert Johnson, is like a god to me. He is great. Many others I like as well, including Clapton. I love the work Jimi Hendrix did with blues, and I also like his mainstream rock stuff. As far as anything besides blues, I dabble in Jazz as well. But I am a stickler for early 90s grunge. Wow, awesome stuff. Pearl Jam rules, no question, out of all those grunge bands. I am also into Soundgarden, Alice N Chains, and Nirvana. But buddy, those arent the only things I like either! I love old school stuff as well. Pink Floyd, Steve Miller, even a little southern rock such as Skynyrd!!!!!!!

But keep in mind my big things are Blues and Early 90s Grunge.

Hi, my name is Matt, but you can call me "The Frizzle Fry" or "Frizzle" or "FF" or "Frizzle You Want Fries with that" or "Stabmaster Arson". I've been playing bass for 14 months now. I really like Primus, Rush, Black Sabbath, and Metallica. They were big inspirations for me to get into bass guitar. I also enjoy long walks on the beach, romantic candlight dinners, and wax paper... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

James here. I've been hangin' around for a bit but also never really intro'd myself. I'm a "born again bassist". Started playing in '76, "retired" in around '85 and picked it back up about 4 years ago. No, I was NOT in prison during the off years just Corporate America (I know, what's the difference ;) )

My screen name comes from the first band I played in in the '70s. Our druggy keyboard player insisted on calling everyone by a name other than their own. To him, I was Malcolm. Since I was a Louis Johnson wannabe, I played mostly with my thumb, so Malcolm became Malthumb.

The good thing about Corporate America is now I can afford whatever I want, so my equipment is classic overkill. Those of you who've read my posts are probably bored silly of hearing about my Alembics (3 of 'em). I play 'em through an SWR SM500 and either 1 or 2 Triads, depending on the venue.

The venues are typically churches these days, since with a wife, 2 kids, and a dog, joining a dedicated band is out of the question, 'specially since I ain't quittin' my day job.

When I'm not playing in churches I'm reliving my early years and playing old school Earth Wind & Fire, Gap Band, Bros Johnson, Prince, type stuff or learning Four Play, Incognito, and Fred Hammond.

I'm really enjoying the conversation in this forum, especially the fact that there's none of the bad behaviour that exists on other forums I frequent.

And I'm a soon-to-be supporter. Just gotta get the right pic for my tag :)

Peace,

James

Hey y'all, I'm Ben, i'm 16, been playing for 'bout a year now. My main bass is a modified Warlock (original pickups sucked), it looks good in my metal/punk band Nameless. I also gig with Blind Fate, which are pure punk. If I say stupid things, don't take it seriously, I'm often kidding, unless I'm not.

Hey, I'm Jordan. I'm 15 and I've been playing for 9 months now. I started with a Peavey 5-string that belonged to my teacher. His son (my friend) helped me actually pick the it up and learn my first song, Southtown (P.O.D.). My dad bought me my first (and current) bass a month or two after I learned my first songs, a Squier Standard P-Bass Special 5 5-String Bass with a Crate BX15 Combo. It's tiny, but it's good for taking to other people's houses.

I'm a southern boy, born and still living in Metro-Atlanta, Georgia. I write mostly punk rock, but I've been learning such types as heavy metal, hard rock, classic rock, nu-metal, and progressive rock. OK, honestly, I keep it mostly between rock and punk, but still.

I'm learning to play with a pick now and hope to learn slap, palm muting....just, everything and anything (besides using a bow).

Anyway, this site rocks! I thought the world popularized guitars and drums so much that we bassists were shoved out of the picture! But, fear not, we shall arise and take over!!!....or, maybe not....

Hi everyone, My name is Dennis but basically everyone calls me Moe. I've been playing about 20 years(really showing my age)oh well.Talking about feeling old, in 1987 I was playing the bar scene in my first real band.check out my profile about my rig.I'm currently in a alternative/retro 80's band called FURIOUS GEORGE and that's pretty cool. The weird thing is I'm playing tunes that I never thought I would play again seems I've come full circle. Thanks Everybody for being so cool!!!!! Talk to you soon.

I'm *kind of* new ... anyway, hello, I'm Bean, and I live in KY. I actually have played string bass for about five years, six this fall. I just started bass guitar last fall. I play in my school's Jazz band, chamber group, string orchestra (sometimes the conductor lets me play BG for them) and the local youth orchestra, CKYO.
