I plan to be very careful and exercise good judgment and common sense when I get to play my WD-800 shortly after it gets here Friday.:)

I'll be playing through a GK MBE 212 cab rated @ 600w. Interestingly, the spec sheet says it's an 8 ohm cab but the label on the cab says 4. This cab sounded amazing with the Walkabout. I'm not diming anything and I don't anticipate needing anywhere near the full rated power. My question is whether it would be an extra layer of insurance if I ran it in 2 ohm mode, or am I misinterpreting the above comment?

I would believe the label on t he cabinet, treat it as a 600 watt RMS rated cabinet so if you run t he amp in 2 ohm mode it will drop the rated power into 4 ohms down to about 600 watts RMS.

I don't know how robust or conservative the power rating is on that cabinet, especially the mechanical limits at low frequencies. I would hate for you to damage an otherwise nice cabinet it without being aware of the risks.

I do not care for his tone, at all. Never really have.
Also: Tal is fantastic.
I do not care for her tone at all here either.
If I'm seeing correctly, in both cases they're playing EBS rigs. So maybe it's those I don't like. I've never played one or met one in person; if that's what they do, I wouldn't like them.
I've heard MM sound like that frequently. I've heard Tal sound much better frequently, but I can't recall what amplification she was using.

I think a lot of other factors are in play other than the amp. Playing style, strings, string height, tone desires, active basses.
I've heard them both on all sorts of equipment, they can sound the same as this. Plus again the recording method, close mic plus direct but, yeah that is how they sound because that is how they want to sound. You don't have to, on the same rig.

It might be their basses that sound bad.. both active J Style ?

Plus Marcus is using Markbass right now. Still sounds the same.

On the other hand, some folks will over time change a little in their technic and therefore change there sound. Felix Pastorius said his dad was starting to change his technic and sound, using the neck pickup rather than the bridge as we know him for. He said he wishes he could have talked to him about it and heard more of it.

That's my point, you sound like you, because of the tone choices you make. Not necessarily the bass you play.

I think even if you ran through her rig you would sound like you, you might tweak the amp a bit but, you would sound like you. Your chose of strings may be different. You may run the bass internal preamp differently. Do you slap? If not then there's that. Do you dig in at the neck to get that almost popping sound like slapping? Fat fingers or slim fingers.

There's a lot of factors that make one sound the way one does.I've seen this and experience it myself.

I had an upright player friend of mine hand me his bass while he was setting up. I play it for a minute. He came over and asked me: 'How are you getting that tone? What did you change on the amp?" I had changed nothing at all. I handed the bass back, he played it, It sounded like him. He handed it back to me. I sounded like me. not him. He was amazed at the difference just by me playing it.

He tried to analyze it. He watched how I plucked the string, what part of my finger, what angle, how much force. He would try to do the same yet it was not the same sound.

I think Marcus sounded a heck of a lot better on EBS than those Markbass-rigs, I owned several markbass myself(but never again). To be honest the first thing i thought when I heard the videos from NAMM on the new miller amps was how bad he sounded now compared too earlier.

Ive tried EBS myself, dunno what model, they strike me as a bit clean and hifi, lots of punchy bottom and crisp top kinda like Gallien Krueger but not the same either.

Yes, Head and cab pair great together, but all my heads sound great with this cab. But the WD may be the best. But still playing with the para EQ. Can get a lot of different tones....and did I mention it's got some balls!

I dug the Walkabout, so I'm really tempted to get a WD800. But this rig sounds SO sweet it's hard to imagine an improvement with my head exploding.
