New MTD Kingston Saratoga!

Hey Everyone!

Wow some great comments. I started the thread but had been side tracked for a while:) The demo's I've heard have been really good and promising:) Talked with a few people in person who have played them and like them alot and it seems folks here who own them like em too!

Now to add a little more to the pot:) I called Mike Tobias a few months ago and had told him I was thinking about getting one of the Kingston Saratoga 5's but would probably go down the line of dropping a active pre in it. He told me that I could buy (From Him) the Bart Pups and Preamp (with tone control) that he uses in his American Saratogas! Stated it should be a direct fit but may just need more shielding in the cavitiy..really got me thinking now!

Care to PM me how much??? I heard that EMG are coming out with some new 5 string P'ups and i was thinking about throwing those in there..

Keep in mind that Mike paired those pickups tonally to go with the USA Saratoga which is an Ash body, the Saratoga might be basswood, different animal. The Barts he is using in the USA model are darker and thicker, more like a humbucker tone, less like single coils. Just FYI.

I will be testing one of these Saratoga fivers in the next few days, will give my impressions afterwards.

i have a Grendel 4 that a previous owner had installed the USA Barts. Did not like them at all. I had a Grendel 5 before this and the original pickups sounded much better IMO. I replaced them with a set of Nordstrand NJ4's with 70's windings that I got from a TB member. What an improvement in sound. It is has become my main bass.

DR Fat beams 40-120

Modifications:
(2) Bartolini 59J LN1/L1 Pickups
(1) 2009 Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass Active Preamp 18V
Active/Passive Switching

That sounds like a wicked combo.

Plenty of punch, plenty bottom, with a nasty sting on top...
