New mxr bass distortion!

this is the first video I've found of the pedal

So the guy in the video was saying that there were two modes on this distortion. An LED-based one and one that is silicone-based. The LED tone is much more open and sharp, while the silicone one has a softer, more rounded feel to it. Some would almost call the silicone "pillowy"

Ok, I'll quit being a 6th grader now :laugh::smug:

That video sounds like another guitar player demoing bass products. Picked power chords tell me nothing about the how the pedal sounds in the hands of an actual bass player.

It sounds pretty damn nasty - but I'd like to hear an actual bass player use it, not a guitar player with a bass.

Hi @The_Janitor,
The actual bass player who's been playing bass in bands for about 10 or so years plays bass that way hahaha ;). People's level of playing and how they play varies from player to player and I am open to all of them, but I don't know that I would say that someone's not a bassist based on how they play.
Personally, I don't enjoy walking around bass lines. I enjoy playing chords and rhythms more than blasting notes. I understand that this is not the standard way to play a bass, but with that said, playing a bass distortion would not yield standard sounds. I am confident that MXR will demo this in a more professional way than I have and we plan to have Frank Abruzzo (Ma Jolie) and TJ Schilling (Carved Up) demoing this on bass officially for us in a couple of weeks. Both can show a more standard form or playing than I am comfortable doing.

I play bass like this. Been playing for about 15 years. I also suck at guitar.

Am I a wanna be guitar player? No.

If a guitar player plays a single note walking line are they a wanna be bassist?

I bet I just blew your mind ya goofball.

Lighten up, Francis.

BTW, a better demo would be nice, but I'm getting one anyway based on reputation alone ;) The Rat is by far my favorite hard distortion pedal but I haven't had one in years since the last one I had got stolen.

I'm almost certainly getting one, despite not needing another distortion pedal at all.

Quick, possibly very stupid, question about the 'dry' knob signal - if my chain was:

Bass - polytune - MXR bass distortion - Sansamp VT (used as preamp) - amp's effects return

What would I be hearing as my 'dry' signal?

You'd be hearing: Bass - polytune - Sansamp VT (used as preamp)

EXACTLY what I was thinking!! Thanks Janitor! Why would they DEMO a BASS pedal with a guy playing CHORDS? Come on, SHOW ME a DEMO I can EVALUATE with!! It was hard enough HEARING what the guy was saying to begin with, I don't care if the Player DEMO's CHORDS, BUT let's also keep in mind that IF MXR is targeting BASS PLAYERS with an effect designed for the BASS, Lets be a little more DEFINED with it's first showings. Seriously, I couldn't distinguish very much difference between many other distortion pedals from what I heard here with this display.

Thanks for sharing the sentiment. I'll back off of my "real bass player" remark, that came across more dickish than I intended. I apologize to those that took offense.

I would still like to hear a demo with more varied content.

Calm down a bit. It was a quick sneak peak demoed from the co creators home. I'm pretty sure MXR has the cash to do a full blown production demo.

And I hope proposition 7478393 passes and outlaws chords/picks on bass. I IV V ONLY YA DINALINGS!!!

LETS ALL MICROWAVE GLOWSTICKS NOW!

IF I'm going to SPEND MY MONEY on a NEW PRODUCT, It must be displayed in a manor that I can relate to (and with) as well! TOO MANY pedals out there are probably MISSING their mark with sales because they are NOT PROMOTING properly. I'm sure there are MANY MORE BASS Players out there ( REGARDLESS of their preferred style ), who can relate to what is being said here. There isn't a DEBATE here about who does and doesn't play chords, BUT can we HEAR enough useful sounds that can help us determine the usefulness of this new product.

If you READ THE THREAD you would've SEEN that pro videos are on their way. The vid in question was a sneak peek of the pedal because the designer posts here. Be glad you got anything in advance of the official vids, we aren't so lucky with most company's new products.

+1 to @andrew (thank you).

@Billy C. this video wasn't anything official from MXR. I helped design the pedal and made a quick and dirty demo to tease it out to friends of Fuzzrocious on social media to wet the appetite off Fuzzrocious people during NAMM season. Please do not consider this sneak peek from Fuzzrocious (who helped design the circuit with MXR) as a product demo that MXR is putting out. And frankly, since I am here talking about it with my fellow TalkBass brethren, perhaps we can keep the comments more conversational and less confrontational. Thank you.
(just so everyone's clear, this post is not snarky or sarcastic; just a speaking voice conversational tone - I don't want to have my tone misconstrued)

Yup, the kind of manor I can relate to is probably smaller than you can. Something like a 4 bedroom 3.5 bath would be what I'm comfortable with. Maybe something with a spiral staircase too, but that would make moving furniture very hard. Being in my new dark prog metal band, this would probably be the manor I could relate to the best...

Ok I'm done being a turd over here ;)

Was I mistaken or did Guitar Center push back the release date for the MXR Bass Distortion from April to June? I checked today and it was now Mid-June for the release date. Sadly, I can't wait that long...broke down and ordered a Fuzzrocious Rat Tail just now. Can't beat the errr---original copy? Anyhow, hope this pedal still does well!!
