I have an mxr bass di and the eq is something else! It's really great as for distortion the blend knob is key to finding the sweet spot for you, I tend to have a lot more dry and then just add gain which retains the mids better for me!

To be fair, the circuitry of the bass comp is a good deal more complicated than an overdrive.
