New Origin Effects DCX Bass

As everyone here knows, I always run my compressor last specifically for that reason. It will make managing gain stages easier plus gels all the other effects together. I use a compressor like you would in a studio. To me if you begin with compressor you are putting a chock on every pedal down the line. Last, every pedal has full range. YMMV
Do you mean “Last”, like right into your amp, or “Last”, like just before your preamp? Forgive me for assuming your setup- Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand the concept here. An emulation of a studio preamp without a balanced XLR output? You're basically running the console into the amp, rather than the opposite. The eq section is also extremely limited (like on a real 610), basically just high/low shelf, no mid control.

As someone who owns an actual 610 as well as a nice selection of other studio preamp I would have been far more excited about a bass oriented Neve-in-a-box pedal. Don't get me wrong, the 610 can be very nice for bass but it's not really THAT special. A Neve 1073 with the input pushed into saturation on the other hand... now that's pure MAGIC for bass guitar! It would still seem rather pointless without a balanced output though.

At least it's not nearly as expensive as their BassRig pedals but with this feature set it's basically just a glorified dirt pedal IMO. Which is ok as long as you know what you're buying and can get some cool tones out of it I guess.

this is the droid you are looking for

I am personally pretty excited about the Origin Effects unit and have enough DIs that I am not worried about the omission

So i got the DCX Bass the other day and to be honest, i didn't think much of it. I was playing through an Ashdown ABM500 into 2 x Orange 115 cabs. (Dingwall Combustion tuned down to C standard)
I thought it sounded slow and dense.
Forward 5 days later i got an Orange AD200 head and BAM! The DCX snaps into focus. Now i understand what all the fuss is about. Now it's taken the place of the Hamstead Subspace as my always on overdrive and using the Subspace as a boost. Absolutely loving it.

Nice board!

my second one just arrive for saturday's gig:

Due to the first DCX I ordered being lost in the mail for a while, I ordered a second intending to send one back if eventually both arrived. Naturally, they both arrived at the exact same time.

I couldn't resist trying both together with one set to EQ and the other one OD, but it hadn't occurred to me to stack them both to set to EQ as I see you're doing. Both are paid for so I might keep both after all.

There are also some coincidental similarities in our setups. We're both using Ampeg tube amps, two DCX, and Peterson Strobos. I have a Cali76 CB positioned after the DCX's.

nice!
and on top of that, i also have a cioks c4!

Now I’m very curious. What is the difference in tone between running one in EQ and one in OD vs running both in EQ with the gain boosted up on one?

Good question. I just got mine so I'm still in the initial stage of trying all the possible combinations along with a new comp. I don't know yet that I'm going to keep one or two of these.
