Got here this morning! Just what I was looking for! Solid low end, little bit of punch with the OD just at the edge of break up.
I’m still fiddling and trying to figure out the ideal settings with this and the cali76 cb but a ~2 weeks in so far it’s a wonderful sound
For now, into my amp. I tried it through my little Maki board and it sounds great, and very quiet. What’s the DCX going into?
mines going straight into a tube DI so I don’t think I want my level set that high!
My main rig is a Fender Superbassman running through either a 610 or a 115, depending.... In lower volume situation's where a decidedly more vintage tone is called for, I play my 1965 B18 (atop a 70s B15 cab). These 2 amps cover everything I need (except ampless stages of course).
I try to keep things simple, but wanted some tonal options for ampless stages at very least. I had tried out a number of different preamps, EQs, drives etc., but I always found myself going back to as simple a board as possible (and sometimes foregoing the whole damn thing and plugging directly into the amp). My compressor is always on. I already have a fantastic DI with my Telefunken or the built-in DI on my Superbassman, so I didn't really need a preamp with a DI.
I was interested in the Origin Effects BASSRIG, but wasn't super stoked to spend $500 for what I would essentially use as a peddleboard EQ. The BASSRIG overdrive sounds great but since both of my amps give me all the tube break up that I want. I just needed something to get things a little harry when ampless and give some EQ flexibility. It just didn't make sense to spend all the extra dough on the BASSRIG.
Enter the DCX!

I just got this thing today and it sounds fantastic! I've only tested it out here at home so far, so the jury is still out. I'll put it through the paces at this weekend's gig. So far though, it seems to be exactly what I wanted.
Super cool pedal that adds some really nice warmth, thickness and grit!
I have not tried the DCX bass with my keeley bassist yet… might have to give it a go.
I have lots of warmth in my current interim set up:

So I've been learning songs and scheduling rehearsals for 3 (!) new bands. So, I'm just getting around to trying to incorporate the DCX into my board. I have signal path order questions.
I use clean or barely on the edge of breakup sounds with fingers/pick/slap sprinkled in there.
So I think I would use the DCX in eq mode only.
My current signal path:
Tuner -> Cali76 -> MBD2 -> Barbanera(filter) -> Utility Knife(modulation) -> CAPO -> Khan
My first thought was to replace the MBD with the DCX.
Then I thought, put it in the post loop of the CAPO, and maybe get rid of the Khan.
Or after the CAPO.
Or before the MBD2.
Or after the MBD2.
Or even before the Cali76.
Now I'm just confused, and I'm too lazy to try all the different combinations right now.

...clearly before OR after the Cali76...Let me know if you decide to sell the MBD2! I guess we should have just swapped! So I've been learning songs and scheduling rehearsals for 3 (!) new bands. Yep put MBD2 post loop. if you don't use the Khan all the time then lighten you load. I also would add put DCX first and Cali right before the Khan if you keep it..So I've been learning songs and scheduling rehearsals for 3 (!) new bands.
