If you happen to play electric guitar too, you might be interested in this
I just blew my mind with this: I matched my newly arrived DCX Boost ALMOST IDENTICAL to my Marshall Guv'nor reissue pedal (the first and one of the most convincing '
JCM 800 in a Box' pedal, recently reissued by Marshall). BOTH BOOSTED BY A FORTIN GRIND, (cause, METAL...).
Yup, that is how much gain there is inside the lovely DCX Bass! When I boost them, I am having a hard time telling them a part in my DAW. Boosting a boost... who would have thunk?
CAVEAT: The DCX requires 'JCM like-frequencies' boosted - which I did on my Empress ParaEQ (mid and high range, medium Q, both by about 3-4db.
What does Origin say about this? Here is what I put together:
1. From Origin Effects FQA - section for DCX and DCX Bass:
"What's the difference between the DCX BOOST and DCX BASS?
The DCX BOOST and DCX BASS are similar pedals, one optimised for guitar, one optimised for bass. The DCX BASS’s H.F. controls works at a significantly higher frequency than that of the DCX BOOST, boosting important parts of a bass guitar signal without getting in the way of guitar, vocals or other mid-focused instruments."
2. From an Origin Effects forum post:
3. Again, from Origin Effects - FQA section for DCX and DCX Bass (sound advice I say!)
"The two pedals are quite closely related, with the biggest difference being the H.F. control frequency, which is significantly higher on the DCX BASS. Because the response is completely flat with this control in the 12:00 position, the difference between the pedals will be more obvious the more you cut or boost the H.F. With more subtle settings, either pedal should work very well for both instruments. The short answer: whichever is your primary instrument, that’s the pedal you should buy."
Cheers!
