New Origin Effects DCX Bass

Thanks odarellmc - if we were to get past the 'precise labeling', kindly let me know if you have any suggestions RE the settings for the adaptive circuitry where it works (and that is what I am using to 'boost').
And to get more precise (and off topic), the setting still matters, it just loses the “adaptive” bit and becomes always on.

I unfortunately can’t remember how I had my DCX and SV setup when I tried them together. Once I get them back ill be trying again, but I have another month to go until I see my old pedals.

If your just boosting I would probably keep it in OD mode because the DCX in eq mode it too mild, but not sure in eq mode if you turn the OD up you get less of the circuit, I'll test. But OD mode seem to be what you want but again at this price point, for me, it better be a always on pedal.

After hearing, researching and trying the DCX Bass, I went ahead and made the order. (I'm going to checkout the new Red Witch Synthotron III on Monday on Ben Fulton's site and have a C4 on standby.)

I also decided to make a change on a new compressor and returned a new UAFX 1176 - same type compressor as a Cali76 Compact Bass. I went looking for the most simple, quite and transparent compressor that I could find.

I found this lil darling to sit between a synth pedal and the DCX Bass before my ReVolt Tube Bass Preamp and Torpedo C.A.B. M+. Will run at 18v.

I just didn't feel the Cali76 Compact Bass was the way to go or the other 1176 compressor with these pedals.

You didn't think the Cali was a great match for the DCX?

This could be heresy, but let me say this....

I have always liked the Cali76 Compact Bass for solid state amps. I haven't used it with tube gear. Just felt like overkill to me on a 200+ watt tube head.

The new UAFX1176 is super nice, but still offers some things that are a bonus in many situations. I didn't feel that this was a bonus situation.

I've owned, and would own again, both the '64 BP & SV units. I selected the '64 first of the two. My situation changed and I went with the SV due to the music. I prefer the '64 flexibility, but the situation called for the SV.

The DCX Bass is a MINOR modification of the DCX Boost for guitar. In some A/B listening to the Cali76 Compact Bass and the Cali76 Stacked Compressor. I would consider using the stacked compressor in more situations than the Cali76 Compact Bass. The stacked compressor is not as dark as the CB. But, it's not transparent either.

My feeling in searching out the Rothwell Love Squeeze is. Sitting after something like the C4, should add no complexity to the situation, be adding no tone magic or bloat to the signal and create any more noise than was humanly possible. Then applying those same considerations to a compressed signal going into the DCX Bass from the Bass guitar. I thought the DCX sounds better post compression in OD mode than the other way around. With the transparency of the Love Squeeze will provide the best signal to the DCX Bass IMHO.

If considering that I also feel that the ReVolt Bass Tube Preamp offers a tad bit of, and possibly sufficient, compression to not be an "effect" and the Torpedo C.A.B. M+ offers a delicate transparent enhancer/compressor function at the end of the signal chain....

I see no benefits to having a nice tone altering, fattening agent, that is not without some noise and other artifacts, with operator requirements going on in the situation? :cigar:

...also, with the ability to bypass the ReVolt Bass Tube Preamp entirely. The Torpedo C.A.B. M+ has a '74 Bassman preamp section to work with a 6L6 IR power section into various 2x15" cabinet DynIR's. So with the ReVolt #1 Channel (SVT) and a great 8x10" DynIR available. I don't expect that I'll need additional units beyond that SMASHING DCX Bass!

Sounds awesome! Ive been looking for something like this for a long time. One thing though, what is the point of having a guitar player do a bass pedal demo..? Sure you can play bass but can you PLAY bass…

There is literally a plethora of amazing bass players that could have done that demo that would have really sold it for what it is but instead we get somebody who knows the product and is obviously capable but isn’t quite up to really pulling the sounds out of the instrument to make it shine properly.. Rant over, great pedal… I’ll defo buy one
Those bass players are reviewing them too. If you want to sell to guitar players, get guitar players to review them too

It would only be heresy if it was fact, fortunately it's just your opinion. Not sure what bass you're using, but in either case I'm enjoying the DCX in both EQ and OD mode with a variety of basses, it's a great unit..

I'd try a cali76 cb price was exactly why I haven't. Bought Broughton Omnicomp I bought for Broughton Centric Pedalboard and I was blown away how much better passive basses sounded compared to my Keeley Bassist. No 1 pedal is loved by all but DCX seems to be agreed on as very good pedal even by the folks who decided it wasn't for them. I'll definitely be ordering one soon price point or not.

Origin Effects is, and I'll say it again; a superb effects company, on the top shelf, in the industry. Both Guitar and Bass Guitar.

Of their pedals, not all are great on Bass or comparatively to other offerings perhaps tailored to Bass specific application.

The '64 Black Panel is really, IMHO, adaptive to Bass, but really is directed at the Guitar market, even if Barry Oakley and "the Tractor" made splendid use of three to four of them with 2x15" cabinets. The Tweed Bassman can be used for Bass, but in reality, became a quinticential blues and early rock guitar amp. The Black Panel is more flexible than the standard use or acceptance of the SV(T) in the well developed Bass community of users.

BUT, both are really great examples of the possibilities of large brain pans and some inspiration. I feel the same about Two Notes and their thought processes in expanding the world of "ampless" possibilities, as the industry shifts gears, and looks over the horizon at moving beyond the wooden spaceship. :bassist:

And if no one knows...Barry Oakley was a guitar player!

Oh, mang…i really want a Black Panel now…

I didn't think the Cali76 Compact Bass was the best match with a synth and DCX and the rest of the signal chain if a simple, TRANSPARENT and totally quiet compressor was desired.

If that love squeeze doesn't work, try the Empress. I have the original Empress compressor and it is very transparent. Currently going DCX into the Revolt with the Empress in the Revolts effects loop and it sounds amazing.

i'll have to try my DCX into my Revolt and then into my Empress comp since i haven't tried that combo before. At the moment, i'm running my DCX into my Origin SV, sometimes with a Cali CB or Empress comp, but at last night's gig i ran them into the new UA 1176 and i was really happy with my sound.

BTW, which of three channels were you running the Empress in the loop?

Thanks; Empress Bass Compressor is a nice unit and is about as complicated as a compressor can be. I need it to sit between what may well be the C4, 3-5:1 ratio and zero noise or tone coloration.

The DCX Bass can't be anything but great, with that type of signal conditioning, in a post compression position and in OD mode, pushing on the Revolt Bass Tube Preamp section or just the uncolored and noise free compressed signal.

I know it will all sound great together!
