New Origin Effects DCX Bass

The DCX BOOST & BASS were released at the same time. I suspect the 'modification' they're referring to is just that we released two versions of what are essentially the same product. One optimised for guitar, one with small tweaks that make it more optimised for bass. (different internal gain staging, slightly tweaked EQ points and voicing).

DCX BOOST & BASS have gone well. Definitely makes us happy to see bass players recieving our efforts well and, we have plenty of bass considerations in our roadmap (as always though, we're keen to get them right, so they'll take a while to appear).

Have you been looking through our windows? Because yeah, pretty much.

The last 2 years has been a journey of carefully getting more stuck-in with bass focused products and yeah, Origin Effects as a bass brand is an exciting thought for us at least. (and definitely exciting for my own selfish desires too). But yeah, keen on getting sonics right, lots of designing and studio listen testing to do!

Received my DCX Bass the other day and it's pretty sweet! Have a gig with it this weekend but it sounds very promising. Only two very slight changes I would make at this point would be 1. To use flat screws at the bottom so the thin hook and loop velcro will attach to pedal board a little more secure. 2. When you plug in the DCX the pedal turns on automatically ... I rather it didn't. These are small things but the pedal sounds awesome so far! Job well done OE!

No... you'll be too distracted looking at your fingers on the fretboard...so it doesn't matter anyway.

True

Seriously I always felt kinda self conscious about having to look at my fretboard until a couple years ago I saw the Cars on YouTube doing Just What I Needed live on some show. I play and sing that song. In the video you can see Benjamin Orr constantly looking down at the fretboard any chance he gets to make sure he’s where he needs to be. I wasn’t worried about it after seeing that.

So, I got the black one on the way. I’ve had the DCX before and know what an awesome pedal it is. But now I’m just wondering, am I going to be able to see the knob settings on this thing?
Cut small triangular pieces of blue painters tape and apply them until you dial in your settings. No fuss, no muss, they come right off.

News Flash: Origin Effects DCX Bass BLACK is easier to read controls in person than in promotional advertising!

That was actually my concern, i've been wanting to buy a DCX bass for a little while now (even listed my Tech 12 DI-2112 on Facebook Marketplace to get cash to buy it), but was worried about the visibility of the black edition, in comparison to the normal one.

Is this standard operation for this pedal? I couldn't find this info anywhere online (or for DCX Boost). It's not a huge deal, but I'd prefer it comes off as the default state when powered on. I'm planning on changing that on my MBD-2 (which also turns on automatically).
I've only had mine less than a week so somebody else can probably answer better, but yes when I plug mine in it turns on. Not a huge deal since that's the only pedal that I have that does that ... maybe there is a way to turn it off but I'm not sure.

Our pedals typically power-on by default on start up. This is a choice made to accomodate those using pedals in switchers or in situations where the pedal may not be accessible. Much like recording studio situation, we recommend people turn on pedalboards prior to un-muting/unbypassing amps connected to speakers.

That has been what's holding me back from changing my order from silver.

Origin Effects puts a lot of thought into their designs so I doubt this will be a problem in person. If it is, just add a small dot of silver paint to the all-black knob. Or swap the knobs out for silver ones.

Thanks for your response. Can you tell me what size screws you use? I'd like to replace them with a flat top screw. Thanks

They're M3 x 8mm

For this release (Black Edition)... We've actually tried a lower profile screw head which uses a 2mm hex. So if you're replacing them for easier pedalboard attachment, you might not need to! We're slowly transitioning to this for all our production (though we need to get through the other screws first). If you do plan on changing the screws on a Black Edition, take a little care, there are some crimp washers under all the screws which are used to ensure proper grounding between the enclosure halves.

Thanks. I have the standard silver edition, so I'll try and find the M3 x 8mm at a local hardware store or Stewmac. Thanks!
