New Origin Effects DCX Bass

It would be neat if (@Origin_Effects) OE made the top plates available in the colour of your choice here so that you could make your pedal fit the whatever/motif of your board. Swap out the plate and instant custom job. No need to have different enclosure colours.

Do we really need to have matching pedal colour schemes? :). Are we now taking pedal boards too far? :)

Just learned something new about the DCX…

I always set mine in EQ on the “edge of breakup”. So I place the drive knob JUST before audible clipping.

Tonight a friend borrowed my P bass and my pedal board to sub in on bass while I played drums. She plays way lighter than me. Because of this I was able to set the drive 25% higher than usual.

Results of this were INCREDIBLE. Playing soft while setting higher saturation left way more room to let the mojo of the DCX shine.

Conclusion: Those who play soft or have low output basses might be able to hear more of the DCX magic in the final product.

So cool.

Hmmm... could a subtle comp/limiter in front of the DCX simulate a lighter touch? Speaking as someone who hits too hard.

Despite the fact some say it’s blasphemy to put a comp before the DCX, as it supposedly kills the dynamics, I’ve found myself that it actually enhances the sound of it a lot. If you adjust your comp reasonably (in my instance a Cali76 CB), the DCX is still responsive and full of dynamics. I recommend giving that a try.

i haven't gotten my DCX to try yet, it is the next pedal i'm planning on purchasing. However, don't they do this in the example that Origin put out:

02:57 - DCX BASS & Cab Sim 03:32 - DCX BASS & Super Vintage 03:58 - DCX BASS & '64 Black Panel

And maybe one or two more spots.

My plan was to go Cali76CB -> DCX -> BAssrigs.

Great point… I hadn’t thought about that. I suppose putting a limiter (rather than a true compressor) before the DCX could help you stay in that sweet spot while leaving the touch sensitivity of the DCX fully in tact.

I would love to learn self control one day... But I suppose a limiter could do that for me.

I intend to find out myself this weekend :D

I don’t personally care, and you can legitimately ask some people that question. However I know people who like an all black board. I know people that have certain colour preferences and I know some folks like their boards to look as wacky and as colourful as possible.
Some folks might not give a rats patootie and some folks do.

I wish I didn’t care about the look of my pedals… but I have definitely passed on great sounding boxes that don’t fit my aesthetic.

I guess it’s kind of like buying a bottle of wine. The label is the very first thing to peak your interest.
