New Origin Effects DCX Bass

Got to hangout briefly with Jacob of Origin yesterday while I was on a short trip to the UK. It was super interesting to learn about the development and creation process of the pedals, and to hear how much attention to detail the team puts into making their products.
Is the OE DCX Bass still holding its place of privilege on your board (substituting for the Noble)? The more ways I try using the DCX the more I like it.

Yep :) it’s working well! My bandmates and FOH are happy with the tone

…and yes. He’s that much taller than me :roflmao:

An absolute delight to meet you yesterday! When you're back in the UK, we'll have to arrange something more formal. For anyone wondering, he's as lovely in person as he comes across in his videos. Super genuine guy who is passionate about the instrument and craft.

For anyone else, if you're in the UK, we'll be at Birmingham Guitar Show at the end of the month, and London Pedal Expo at the end of March! We look forward to seeing anyone who decides to pop by and say hi.

And yes, I'm 6'2"

We're waiting for the final review video :) Although you already convinced me to order for a similar configuration to yours:
Dingwall > DCX Bass > QC > Jule Monique 800 > Greenboy F112s & FoH
I will do one once our winter tour run finishes by the end of March :)

Quick pedal order question. I have a BassRig SV and the DCX Bass. I use the DCX always-on and as a solo pedal for clean console tone (BassRig stomped off). Then both the DCX and Bassrig for more driven amp tone.

I've recently added some fuzz, distortion, and octave pedals to the mix. Where would you put the DCX in this chain? At the front, first pedal? Perhaps just before the BassRig as an EQ unit, after the distortion? The fuzz and distortion are adding a lot more variables that I'm trying to sort.

Opinions and experience appreciated.....

I have mine first either with a nice console type tone inneq mode and then with a flick of the switch either solo distortion or driving other dirt pedals...

Finally ordered the DCX Bass. Couldn't resist anymore.
At first I thought of using it as a subtle OD/dirty boost (in EQ mode), but now I'm thinking of using it as a straight up overdrive (in OD mode). For subtle thing, I'd either keep using Jive, or - I might delegate my MDB2 for that use. I like MBD2 a lot, but the medium overdrive tones I use it for aren't doing it for me 100%. Perhaps DCX will shine for that purpose.

I have high hopes for the DCX, all the reviews are great but it's an expensive pedal so it really has to justify itself.

To my ears it is competitive to the quality of more expensive pedal preamps like Caveman or Rheingold. And of course @IvanBassist left his Noble at home in favor of the DCX for touring.

So if you think about it you’re saving money by buying it. That’s how math works right???

I also indulged myself into one :) , it should arrive tomorrow. I've been using a Zio for a month and sometimes I struggle with its scoop mode. I'll be keeping one or the other.

Quoting myself, the DCX arrived this morning. All I have to say is that 15 minutes later my Zio was up for sale.

Million dollar question:

in YOUR setup (all DCX users), what do you actually use the DCX for? Purely as a drive? As a boost? As an EQ? To enhance your tone slightly or change it radically?

Please explain the true purpose of the DCX on your board :)

( In other words, when you choose to stomp on the DCX, what flavour are you expecting from it? What does it specifically add to your sound that you don’t get when it’s off?)

In my case, I go: Tuner->DCX->Cali76->HX Stomp. It adds some saturation and I slightly boost the low frequencies. It adds some nice low-end. I use it in EQ mode just about to breakup.

Too early for me to really give you a true answer, but I ordered it to use it as an overdrive. I'll have to test it out first, obviously, and see what works best for me, but I dig the clips I've heard of it as an overdrive. I don't use any pedals as an "always on" tool anymore because I like my clean tone as it is.

I'll definitely report back once I try it. Wanna see if it pairs better with MBD2 or Jive.

I have the DCX always-on for a direct console tone with a touch of drive peeking through. Pretty much the sample setting in the instructions. Then stomp on more downstream dirt for bigger sounds. I play in churches so there is plenty of opportunity for the DCX tone during soft sections. Tuner > Comp > DCX > Octave > Dirt > BassRig DI. The DCX makes my P bass sound like my P bass but much better. I really like that.
