I going to give this a try. Thanks.....Agreed. I still like DCX early-ish in the chain. However… I am really enjoying how higher gain dirt pedals sound when pushed through the DCX.

Interesting. I have the DCX as always on sauce, and I'm highly interested in replacing my NUX MLD NBP-5 with the Zio. All I want at my end of chain preamp is a HPF, XLR, and minimal EQ if any at all.
I’ve had both, and kept the Zio for the DI.In defense of the Zio, it’s a very good preamp with a great set of features and easy to use at the same time. But the DCX is in another league, comparing the two (if I can only keep one) the DCX wins.
If you are using a compressor, DCX before the comp?Always on first in chain, EQ, set to be touch sensitive with just a bit o’ hair when digging hard. If it wasn’t followed by a quad cortex, I would get a second one for the excellent drives.
No issues whatsoever I have 3 18v on board preamps 2 EBMMSRS & Sire and a P/J with very hot reverse P pickup handles it perfectly. This is my signal chain into the DCX...tuner>comp>oct>evf> DCXDid a quick search of the thread, but see few mentions of the info that I seek... anyone have thoughts on running Stingray into the DCX? Hotter active signals seem fine from most discussions.

i agree. that's the order that i prefer too.I think the general consensus when placing the DCX and the Cali76 is the Comp before, but I think that I prefer the other way around. I was testing different positions and the Cali killed some dynamics. I use the DCX just to add some warmth and colour to the signal and it was more difficult with the Cali first. I want to experiment with some different settings too, but so far, the DCX first I think is a winner.
Quoting myself, the DCX arrived this morning. All I have to say is that 15 minutes later my Zio was up for sale.
Quoting myself again -I miss the edit feature-. I tried the DCX for a while and I’m having second thoughts about it.
It sounds great at home but all of its sonic features seem to get a bit lost in the band mix, specially if I add other dirt. The presence is still there but I’m not sure if it’s worth to put +$400 into subtle tonal enrichment.
So the Zio is back to the game for now.
For me the DCX live is useful in two main ways…Quoting myself again -I miss the edit feature-. I tried the DCX for a while and I’m having second thoughts about it.

Haven’t tried a dirt pedal yet that doesn’t play well with the DCX. The “med” or “dark” positions are particularly good for taming staked dirt. This is my concern with getting a DCX. I'd most likely run it after a Lusithand Ground and Pound and Night Owl Edison (both running subtle grit/gain/boost), but I'm unsure if the grit going into the DCX will be a negative and two different dirt EQ profiles start duking it out. It's a high price to find out.
