Double Bass New! Pirastro Perpetual Double Bass strings

@Mark Gollihur Any word on availability of the beefier Perpetual G string?

So, I do know a bit about this new string. I'm not supposed to divulge much about it yet (neither is Sam, but that request from Pirastro may have been lost in translation from German... Oops!)

As of this moment, the string is in very early testing, and there is no proposed date for full-scale production or release yet on the schedule. So it's a bit early to get too excited about it yet - keep your wallets in your pockets for the moment. As soon as I am permitted to speak more to the Raison d'être for this new string, as well as any other details about it (including timelines) you folks will be the first to know. ;-)

Well, I want one right away. Seems like the perfect upgrade to an already amazing string. I have cycled thru several different strings on this bass and keep coming back to the perps. THe G thicker with more umph is going to be super welcome and I cant wait to get one. THanks Sam (for spilling the beans all over the floor)and Mark for keeping us informed.looking forward. Hope they dont take to long in this phase and get the string out to sell.

Just got the New G perp and WOW do I love it.
THe D perp on my bass is SO killin. It has this kind of overtone-y complexity that I just love. The skinny G is kind of a different character but this new heavy G is a match. They sound great together so far both the pizz and arco are great. I am a big fan of Perps and this makes the set even better. Seems a little higher tension then the Skinny G (maybe to match sprio?). Pings so nice I am really loving the sound.
My prediction: this is going to be the go to G string for Spiro users who love the Oliv but want to stay steel and have that all steel balance. Not a gut string or trying to be a gut string. More like a Perp D a forth up...and on my bass that is awesome.

after a couple hours with the new G, man you can see these cats at Pirastro are really trying to make the perfect pizz G string. It has all these...qualities. It speaks in this ballsy pizz that is super authoritative and, well, loud. In a good way. It is thicker but not thicker then the D. Up in thumb it sounds just stellar on my bass with a thicker authority and clearer tone then the other perp G. Really interesting string.
