Thanks for the feedback. You should know though that this wasn't a hidden pricing thing or marketing shenanigans though. The website FAQ section states that a bag is not included with this amp. We had every intention of selling the 802 for more money with the bag included but the bag factory took longer than we thought to deliver and we didn't want to hold the 802 launch back. Also, after talking about it while reviewing our goal of building modular systems, we decided it was probably for the better to not pass on the cost of the bag to all customers when many might not even use it so we went with a smaller mark up from the 800 to the 802.

Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated. The fact that you are taking your time here makes you stand out anyway. And in fact, also in the article description at Thomann, the bag was not mentioned as included. I just took it for granted, as it was included with the BB800. So my bad. Or call it assumption trap.
Of course! It is weird to introduce a new higher priced thing that comes with less accessories, we get that. It's just how everything fell into place this time. If everything lined up and we didn't have second thoughts it would have been $749 with the new bag included.

Probably seemed cool at the time. Like the output on Alembics.
The output on Alembics are in XLR form because they are 5 pin connectors to allow for a stereo output and external power supply. No way to plug a mic cable into it. Not just cool, but essential for the functionality.
I know what the plug on Alembics is for, I've owned one. I stand by the idea that most people thought it was cool despite most not knowing its function.
Haven't read every post, but I think I like the BB800 best, just looking at all the options/features. I think this is going to be my next purchase. I'm really interested in using it as a power amp with my PF50T, but not opposed to using it as a stand alone, if I like the tone. I'm a big Ampeg, baked in sound guy.
Question for all the people using a BB800 as a power amp with an Ampeg PF20T or PF50T:
What is your physical arrangement?
The big Ampeg looks silly sitting on top of the tiny BB800, and you can't balance the BB800 on top of the Ampeg.
Are you using big cabs that they sit side-by-side? Do you have one on the floor? Did you rig some kind of rack or stand?

But you have played this set up? What I'm trying to get to, is how does it sound? I don't have a bass block yet. I'm wondering how it sounds.I would like to, can't figure out the best way to stack them! That is my question.

How deep is the PF? It might go sideways on the cab leaving enough room for the BB likewise?
Line into power amp should sound just like the source but loud.
Am I correct in saying, only the gain knob works on the BB, when hooked up like this?
Correct; only the Gain knob affects the signal, if you come in the XLR on the back panel.
I've experimented with both XLRs out the back of my Ampeg PF20T as a preamp, into my Quilter BB800 as a power amp. The Transformer Out in particular sounds just like a big 800w tube amp! I'd like to experiment with some kind of XLR to 1/4" adapter. I'm curious how the Ampeg would sound through the preamp section of the BB800. I bet it would sound pretty good.
The only tricky thing is how to arrange them, physically. The Ampeg and Quilter will fit side by side on a 4x10 cabinet, but not on a typical 1x12. Lately I've been experimenting with the BB800 on a pedalboard. It fits perfectly on a Pedaltrain Metro 16 or larger.
I have a PF-20T, BB800, and also an Ampeg SVP Pro Preamp. While I liked the sound of the PF20T into the line in, I don't think the transformer out works that well in this application. The volume from the transformer out doesn't change when you change the master volume. I know the volume on the Quilter can be used, but with the input gain on the Quilter bypassed, I just felt like it didn't drive it properly. The SVP Pro on the other hand gives you big fat gooey tube tone in spades. Tried both into my IP310 and the SVP Pro wins hands down. IMO,YMMV etc. Just wanted to share my observations.
This thing is legit. Just used it with a Mesa subway stack in a 20 pc ensemble and it had heft and punch and great tone. I concur with Tom Bowlus on a post a while back... I had to almost dime the bass... but it sounded great!

Just got my BB800 today. My PF50T sounded great through the line in, and my volume DID work on both lines out. I tried it (BB800) by itself, and wasn't as happy with the sound, but its growing on me. I found the best sound so far, to my ears, was the Depth at noon, and the Contour at 3:00. The thing does have lots of power. I will have to take it to a few gigs, as a stand alone, and tweak on it, before I can really say if I like the sound. Its not terrible, just different. I'll check back in after this weekend. Edit on my last post: The Contour was set at 9:00, not 3. Since then, I have bumped it back to 8:00. The Contour can really make a muddy sound. I have a gig tomorrow night, we'll see what adjustments I make live.
