New Rickenbacker Colors

That's a thought, though I'm sure we'd have to fend off lawyers. Ok, let me find my scalpel.
That was my thought, as well. It isn't a very good pink, unless you are a teenage girl.
The sunburst with black hardware is pretty hideous, though. I'm normally a fan of Rickenbacker's colors, but I can't get into either of these.

There are 3 answers to that question ...
1 - the 4004cii5 has a wide neck ... but less than 100 were made because the pickups were too narrow
Here's one I used to own with a preamp and replacement pickups
Next the original 4004 c and L models from 1993 to 2006 had a neck that is 1 11/16" at the nut and 2 3/8" where the neck meets the body. Those basses can be converted into a 5 string bass with a 2 1/2" bridge. Below is my 4004cii converted into a 5
Then the modern 4004 has a neck with same dimensions as a 4003 .. it can be converted into a 5 but the best you could possibly do would be a 2 3/8" spacing at the bridge

I like the black hardware/pickguard with checker binding. I don't think it goes that well with the fireglo or whatever it is. The pink is cool, but the wrong shade for my taste.
I really like both colors, but I REALLY like butts so I have voted accordingly.
The Pink one need checkerboard binding...

The burst one appears to have an ebony board.
If they would just bring back the checker binding permanently I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
They're alright. In my opinion, Rickenbacker sometimes misses the mark with special editions. I was glad to see the 4003S return but some of these are gaudy to me (others are some of the coolest I've ever seen, most are a bit gaudy). I think before releasing new finishes they should put a little R&D into making sure their jetglo and mapleglo basses don't bubble at the tailpiece. For the past year, literally every new Rick I've seen in stores (and I seek them out) in those colours have had bad bubbles and sanding marks in the clear.
They should go for a more classy release such as a 4001V67 or something to that degree, and where's the white checkerboard binding, I much prefer it. Or a really light shell pink. Like the answer to the blueboy finish: the pinkboy. All this being said, I absolutley love their instruments and am a huge fan, I'd just take a different approach....IMO, YMMV, etc.

i think the way you're going is cheaper. even if this prototype becomes a limited run it'll be expensive.

Rickenbacker posted some nice looking basses last night.
Pink and a nice looking burst with all black hardware. Not sure what color burst that is considered.
What do you think? I'm digging both.

Surprisingly, I like the pink one, and after viewing, my stomach is less upset...
