New Rickenbacker Colors

That shade of pink looks great with copper; if I had it, I'd have to have all the hardware re-plated in copper.

Plus, you could just carefully shave it down with a razor blade and hit it with some 1000 grit. I do it on all my bound instruments. It's unnoticeable and an amazingly comfortable arm contour.
I guess maybe Mr Hall saw what Fender is selling pink Mexican Jazz Basses for (Flea model) and decided his company can give it a go too. IMO it doesn't have the same splash.
I don't like sunburst on ricks usually but ebony and checkerboard binding do me in. If this had the red covering all that yellow in the middle, It would be perfect IMO. They could call it something snappy like two tone red burst. lol

I'm with you; I prefer my basses sans pick guard. I went to remove the pick guard from my early '70s 4001 when I bought it new only to find out the company had a really bizarre (and poorly-crafted) way of running wires that made it impossible to keep the PG off. As for colors? I'm color blind, so I usually go for natural finishes and various types of wood. The matter that really strikes me, however, is why on earth Ric would bother with different colors and finishes and leave the world's cheesiest bridge on it? The old Ric style bridge is an interesting looking piece of hardware, but it does its job so poorly it should have be relegated to the dust bin decades ago.the finish means very little when it's been covered with a pickguard

I'll never understand why people bitch about the intentionally retro-style hardware on the 4003 when the 4004 has existed for years and has the things they're asking for.
Many years ago, I saw a red or "Rubyglow" 4001 with checkerboard binding and it was beautiful! I'm a sucker for that Sunburst finish, black hardware and checkerboard binding too!
Rickenbacker posted some nice looking basses last night.
Pink and a nice looking burst with all black hardware. Not sure what color burst that is considered.
What do you think? I'm digging both.

Asking because I don't know: has RIC ever done a 4001/3 OEM in a dark, manly purple? Or is midnight blue / azure as close ad they've come to it?

I like them both, though I'm not a fan of bursts on the Ric body shape usually.
I would like to see the blackout hardware, ebony board, and checkered binding on the pink body. I bet that would look sharp.
And as for those who don't like binding, RIC makes the 4004 and the S models. I like the binding with solid colors, and the checker binding is classy looking.

Probably the closest they came was the darker version of Burgundy. It was an overall translucent deep wine red. For a time in the early '70s, some were so dark they appeared nearly black. These have been dubbed "Eggplantglo" by enthusiasts.
This isn't random bitching about a retro-style component. I actually like the look of the original-style bridge; it is one of several defining features of a Ric. I still own and play the early '70s 4001 I mentioned in my original post. I'm wondering why Ric doesn't bother to make a bridge that looks like the one that came on my 4001 but actually functions properly. It can be done, but hasn't. The question is: why?
