New Sadowsky Preamp/DI?

One of the problems with a headphone jack is it consumes a lot of power---making it the biggest drain on the batteries. So let me ask you guys----why is the headphone jack so appealing to you??

I am working on a headphone practice amp with a source imput. Very simple--blend control and volume control. Battery or AC. Very high quality.

I'm in the earliest stages of R&D so no questions about "when"!!!

Headphones are good for practice for those of us who love our pets/neighbors/significant others... :)

Seriously, also a high quality headphone amp like the cafe walter (your new head phone amp design sounds similar) is useful to polish glitches in our technique that are not as promienet when played through an amp that may be a little more forgiving.

An Aggie DB750 allows me to be a little more sloppy but I couldn't get away with that with a Cafe W and nice set of headphones.

Now how about a nice FX loop on that pre/DI? :)

While it's not a deal breaker for me, it is one of those things that make life easier when you're out on the road. I have a Korg Bass Ampworks that I use at home for silent practice, but I ordered the EBS because it seems to be the "swiss army knife" of DIs, so I'll just keep that in my accessory bag (either instead of or in addition to my SABDDI). I'm sure I'll still end up keeping my SansAmp, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the Microbass compares. According to the manual, the Microbass draws ~10mA w/o headphones and ~15mA w/ headphones. The only thing missing unfortunately is a pre/post option for the XLR out :(

I love the headphone option for jamming out in my room.

I usually just jam through GarageBand on my Mac... but sometimes I just want to not have to have my amp or computer running just to jam!

Plus I know having a high quality stomp box sized preamp is great. Portable tone in a small package!

For me, the headphone jack would be out of place on this unit. This would be a tool for live use, not practice.

Man! I forgot about this thing. I'm delightfully surprised. I've been looking for a good 2-channel DI/pre. Specifically, so that I can run the Sadowsky pre for one bass and then use the on-board on my Metro; but from what it sounds like, this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for.

I am excited!

Plus, I've got the funds for it (even though I have no idea what the price point is going to be). Regardless, I am very excited (have I mentioned that?) :D

Mark me down for one.

Why don’t you buy an A/B Box and the regular Sadowsky Preamp/DI.

You connect the two basses to the A/B box and its output to the preamp. When you are using the Metro you use the bass preamp and bypass the pedal. When you change to another bass you activate the controls in the preamp/DI.

That’s what I do and it works great.

I've definitely thought of that. I usually just go direct though, and like to carry as little as possible. Here's what I understand thus far (anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, since I probably am):

- There's a 2 channel Sadowsky preamp in the works. :hyper:
- One channel will be the typical Sadowsky 2-band pre.
- The other will be 3-band.
- The pedal will feature a DI.
- It will also be able to be used as an A/B box.

I need an A/B box/DI. I've looked at the BassBone, and running an A/B into the DI. However, I also would like to have the Sadowsky pre for my Sterling and another bass that I can't really reveal much about...yet :ninja: . It'd be cool to be able to run one bass through the typical Sadowsky pre, and my Sadowsky through the 3-band - possibly allowing me to tamper with the mids (not that it needs it; but it just adds a little more tonal variety IMO).

I just figure that, if I'd be buying a Sadowsky Pre/DI already, I might as well kill the most birds with the fewest stones.

I've just been so enamored by the quality/care of everything affiliated with Sadowsky, I'm not expecting this to be an exception. Have I mentioned I'm excited? :p

I'd say take a look at the Phil Jones Bass Buddy it has some nice features that makes is a real versatile device.

Also for a DI/pre-amp I'd like to a feature like the XOTiC X-Blender pedal. Nice to be able to have an effects loop then blend original clean bass, and effect. An example would be Bootsy Collins who's fuzz bass sound so defined and fat because you have the distortion, but still the big clean bottom. He doe it with separate outputs for each pickup on his bass, but something like the X-Blender will do the same thing.

sounds like what i saw... also, FYI, it'll run on 9v batteries! trying to do away w/ the wallwart.

also, roger's developing a separate headphone practice amp. :cool:
