New Sire P Basses!

Wow, so they're going to have 1.65" neck and blocked neck on a P-bass. Oh man, even with the so-so J-pup position and my transition toward "35 that is so darn tempting!!!

Seems a bit wierd to not offer both sizes of neck stock since proper factory fitting of neck and body is always preferrable. I wouldn't be surprised P with J neck basses come very soon based on customer demand.

This is the final look I'm going for. I will check with them...but I don't really want to go higher in cost, but I may. I have seen reports that the stickers work fine and stay on, but I'm still not totally comfortable with it. If I have to, I'll still go maple without the blocks.

Like this?

I've heard good things about the stickers too in terms of durability and not affecting play. However, but I know with near certainty that if I got a bass and put the stickers on I would always want actual blocks. That said the MightyMite neck you mentioned is very affordable so if you end up loving the bass and want to upgrade later to a blocked neck you wouldn't be out much cash.

After a decade of dreaming I finally got a bass with P-width neck and blocks, but it did cost a bit more than the project you're looking at...

Why don't you guys just cool your jets and quit the bitching about something you know nothing about?

Ah, alas, the jets in need of cooling may be your own, good sir. We do know they intend to sell it with a P neck on it, and require buyers who want a J neck instead to buy an additional (jazz) neck and put it on themselves. We know this because the have said so. Temperature control of jets is a desirable objective. Live it. Be it. Know it.

Paging Sire - make a 5 string version to compliment the current dual pup 5ers.

I have no doubt that will be forthcoming......

I am having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around their decision offer them stock ONLY with the P neck, but to sell J necks that can be purchased and installed by the buyer at his/her cost and risk. They should IMO offer them with either nec, from the factory.

No, this isn't a question of "I want them to offer MY custom option!" I understand they can only sell for low prices by having a stock set of features that all their machines are set up for. So, forget fret size, color, this or that option... it's not there and that's more than okay.

Here's the thing: they are already going to be manufacturing J necks that will fit the P7. So, in order to sell one that comes with a j neck installed, they won't need ANY additional machining or retooling; they will already be making these necks.

Why, then, won't they offer the bass with a neck they are already going to be making? Does it cost more to install a j neck than a P neck? No. All they need to do is have them at the factory where they are building these. Perhaps they will build the j necks somewhere far way, and would have to ship them to the manufacture location, whereas the P necks will be made onsite? Maybe. That's all I can come up with.

I agree .. I don't see why they don't just give you the option at purchase.. P or J neck.. I mean really.. who switches out their necks on a regular basis? I think they would sell more of they gave the option with each purchase for the neck you want.

One thing I just don't get in this thread is all the complaining .... complaining about the knobs.. complaining about the necks.. (which appears to now be moot..) complaining about it not being passive.. the thing goes from active to passive, with passive tone control... . The whole active passive thing seems silly to me.. the bass is active/passive.. with passive tone control , which is something a lot of active basses that go active passive do not have... so I just don't get that.. and as for the knobs.. well.. the bass has two pickups so a balance control is a given.. and a mid control with sweepable mids is in my opinion ... the way to go on a 3 way pre amp.. I like the sweepable mids better than the mid frequency switch.. a lot more fine tuning.. and aftwr a while the knobs become extensions of your ears.. There are enough passive P style two knob basses out there ... and most guys that I know who prefer P basses ... have P basses so this is a welcome option... at least in my limited opinion.. and I just don't get all the griping ..

Canadians talk regional smack? With no French involved? Well, maybe your southern neighbors put you on a pedestal....

Wouldn't call it smack, whatever kind of slangy pidgeon english that is...Preferring to NOT live anywhere but heavy mountains has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING..Keep your inferences against some kind of prejudice toward fellow Canadians in a different area, to yourself.(IE not on Talk Bass)...and for informational purposes, near ALL of Canada has ZERO use for French in any way.
..and most southern neighbors think we all live in igloos, not usually a pedestal involved.
