See that's why segmentation strategy was invented ;)
Covering multiple contiguous market segments facilitates consumer decision to add "just a little" to get "a little more". Marketing works :D

I know its wrong to say but having Fender on the headstock is playing a part in my mind too. which i know is stupid because they are probably both equally as good

Yeah, the new Squiers are GAS inducing. Feels like the Fender MIA series all seem to have counterparts now in the Squier line.

Spiritually, the VMs seem particularly close to the American Standards, and the CV would be the American Vintage.

Indeed. I am really stoked to try a P5. I really hope they share the same neck as the previous VM5J. I owned two and found them the be one of the most comfortable 5 necks I've ever owned. As long as they maintain the QC that my VM5J's had, count me in. Between these and the lacquered 50's Classic, I really wish I hadn't blown my wad on a NAV 58 P.

But then again, that's what Fender was counting on ;)

I think someone on this thread speculated that the MIM prices will go up, just under the MIA's. Then the affinity's will stay at the bottom, then the VM's, and the new CV's will eventually be priced like the current MIM's. Seems pretty likely to me.

They better step up to accommodate the price hikes then.

Or Srandards move from MIM to MIC and Mexico plant handles current non-standard models which are already priced in between MIM and American Special.

Based on the Modern Players I would like to see what would come out of that plant as a Standard series instrument.

If they priced the CV like the current MIM that would make them £200 more than the cheapest Fender, how many people buy a £560 Squier when you can get a Fender for £360?

With the new Modern Player basses being priced so close to the CV, I wouldn't be surprised if the the MP's are a replacement for the CV's and we'll see the CV line dropped soon.

But the Modern Player series shoots for a different feel than the Classic Vibe. CV basses are supposed to be pretty close to the classic basses they copy, whereas MP gear is tweaked or modded versions of Fender stuff. They could easily co-exist.

In fact, maybe we haven't seen hints at a new CV series because they are being dropped from Squier and turned into the new Fender Standard. Besides the very limited finish options they have been given very high reviews and have been very faithful to the normal Jazz and Precision we expect from a Standard, moreso than anything else from Squier lately or from the Blacktop and Modern Player Fenders, save the MP HSS strat which is about as dead stock an HSS strat as any MIM HSS save the finishs, and $100 less.
