New TC Elec. BH550 & 800

Regarding weight, I have an EBS Reidmar at 3.2kg (7.5 pounds) and a TC BH250 at 1.8kg (4 pounds). To me, the weight of the Reidmar is much more assuring, while the BH250, although VERY portable, feels like it's going to blow off the top of the cab, and I also think the front is so small that they have sacrificed a couple of much needed knobs.
I think the size of the BH550 seems really nice.

I was used to my Teacamp Puma 500 which is tiny and light. I agree the BH550 size and weight is fine. It fits easily into my backpack which is all that matters.

I think the EQ is the best feature of this thing.

Well I did another gig with the BH550. All I can say is TCE got it right with this amp!! I really don't care what the power ratings are on paper, this amp is just as loud as my GK MB500, with an eq section I prefer over the GK. The venue I played at, I have gigged with the same band before and know what volume the GK was pushed too. The Master volume of the BH550 never went past 11 o'clock competing against a loud drummer, 2 guitarists using 50 watt tube amps and keys.
I tried out the octaver on a song and it tracks perfect. The speakers can't actually handle the low D too well.

Having worked with toneprint I don't consider the inability to blend a disadvantage. If anything it will just save you from creating filthy and unusably dumb tones. Also it would require TC to come up with a new foot-witch which could cope with the (Tone 1/Tone 2/ Tone Blend) configuration which would be more extensive an invention then the feature would be worth to anyone. If the toneprint editor will work with these models (which I can't confirm) then any blend feature would be redundant because you could make the blended tone you want then port it to the 1st toneprint, then make another blended tone you like and port it to the second anyway.

I don't agree w/ more power than RH heads comment but that has been debated over and over and I'm not trying to do that here other than to say if I'd never read it on Talkbass I'd have never known it was an "issue." I have the RH450 and the BH550 both. I like (prefer) the voicing of the RH450 flat and I like the EQ of the BH550 (very easy with good boost and cut points).

It sounds REALLY good. Much like the BH250, only better. Sounds like every bit of 800 watts. Also I don't if it's my imagination but the TonePrints seem to sound better than they did with the BH250. Unfortunately I can't keep it as my daughter was in the hospital recently and the bills are coming in.

Really tempted to pick yours up. I am still on the fence, as I still need to know if I am going to be pushing APM or not. The feature set of the BH's is just killer.

It says "RAW POWER" in big letters on top of the amp. As much flak as TC has taken I seriously doubt they would try that again. Agree about the feature set.

Excluding the tone prints, how would you compare it to the KXB head?

Two different animals. The kxb500 is more like just amplifying the sound of your bass where the BH800 has more color. The TC EQ has far more range and the 800 watts is one thing I wish the kxb had. Not that the kxb isn't powerful enough, but more is always better. Bottom line the kxb500 is a great canvas to build on, like adding your own effects or EQ, where the BH has much of that built in.
