New Traynor YBA 100!!

I’m sure I could make a lot of different amps work for a lot of different musical situations. Some are just easier to get where you want to go than others.

Can't wait till I can try out one of these new YBA-100s and see what they're all about. I've heard a few YBA-300s on stage before, but never used one.

It is funny how I find that customer picture look better than the corporate picture on the web, it look more 'real life' I suppose.

No Acoustic rig, but for good measure, I attached a photo of what my buddy picked up on CL last week…
Thanks to Lowendtech, Pillo, Roxbororob, and all the others for all your posts – and GrapeBass for keeping us all updated. That was a big part of my decision…

Love the look. Love the handle!
But not so much the upside down speakon connector (just like my SVT VR)
What can I say that hasn’t already been said! It’s definitely gooder than good.

It’s quite formidable through the Genzler 212.
I found these as good starting points ;
Jazz Basses sound good all @ noon w/Bright switch.
P’s I like (so far) with the Bass, Mid, & Freq ~10:30, Treble at noon, Bright disengaged.
Deep switch not so much. Sucks too much out of other frequencies.
Maybe can compensate with Mid @ 9:00 and Freq @ 3:00, but…
(The only deep switch I’ve ever found useful is the Aguilar AG700 that thickens low-mids without scooping other frequencies)
Like the V4B and the ToneHammer, there’s a learning curve that’ll take time as far as how everything interacts – especially with different cabs and basses.
But I can see there’s possibly a lot more tonal flexibility than what might be immediate apparent.

Manual says passive bass and treble, so I would think cut only. Mid is semiparametric active.

The Bax/James tone stack is passive and it is boost / cut.

Like an old B15, or even more like an SVT with the passive boost/cut bass and treble and the mid with selectable frequency.

Of course the SVT has a rocker switch with three mid frequencies, and the Traynor has that mid frequency control for a bunch of frequencies.

What a coincidence! Your collection is impressing.

Mine is funky: My J-bass is stamped June 2 / 64 but my dad passed away a June 2. It is life.

Was (pleasantly) surprised to see one of my staff members using one as a guitar head on my way out to lunch this afternoon...well, when I played guitar at one point I had a YBA3 Super tubed up as close to a Marshall head as I could get it, so why not? I know a lot of the YBA1 re-issues were being played as guitar heads as well when they came out. The YBA-100 sounded pretty damn good with guitar through a 4x12...

I tested the YBA100 as a guitar amp with a Pod Go modeler. In general, I think a person can definitely use this amp double duty as the in-general warm tubey standard along with the modeler obtained a definite, to my ears, tube guitar amp sound. And with a versatility of pretty much mass variability as to how one wants it to sound.

I still haven't personally tested by itself for a guitar amp because in addition to my personal purchase of a YBA100, I purchased a YCV4050 guitar amp for myself and do prefer it to the YBA100 as a guitar amp, mainly due to the guitar oriented tone controls, dual channel, and the fact that I personally prefer turning amp knobs rather than adjusting the modeler.

I noticed reference to different basses sound with the YBA100. I have tested 4 different active pre-amp basses and in-general did not notice that any particular pre was inappropriate with the amp.

I tested the YBA100 as a guitar amp ..... In general, I think a person can definitely use this amp double duty as ..... guitar amp.....

For a few years I used a YSR-1 as a bass amp, and have used other brand tube guitar amps for bass, so I see no reason why the YBA-100 can't do the reverse.
