New Wave / Punk forebears...

Jennifer "Fur" Dixon - the Cramps 1986.

Oh lord yes. Never got to see her live, but Fur is still a lovely and very talented lady.

I had it bad for Candy Del Mar too. Saw The Cramps--one of my favorite bands of all time--on three occasions, once with Candy playing bass. I got to kiss her hand after the show.

Lux and Ivy were the kindest, coolest people. I miss them. Lux, IMO, was one of the two or three greatest frontmen in the history of rock and roll.

If you need proof, just look up their version of "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" live on YouTube from "Urgh! A Music War."

According to a DEVO bio I read a few years back, there was a feeding frenzy over what label would release this killer album and who would produce.(Warner Bros got the label deal and (the brilliant, IMO) Brian Eno got the producer's chair--Bowie wanted it very badly as well.)

Interestingly (and funnily) in one passage, Richard Branson, multi-billionaire force behind Virgin, wanted the band so bad he flew them to a private island he owned, got them high on the most powerful stuff they ever smoked and had a plan in which John Lydon (Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) would become DEVO's lead singer. He was telling the band "John's waiting in that room over there, behind the closed door. He would be an excellent vocalist for DEVO and you'd have the added push of the Sex Pistols behind your brand. It's a match made in Heaven!" (I'm paraphrasing a bit.)

All the band could do was roll around and laugh hysterically because they were so stoned. Obviously, that deal didn't go through. A good thing, IMO, although I do like the Pistols.

Too funny, glad it didn't happen though. I like Lydon, but that would not have been a good fit, he's too much of a one man show.

Yeah, it is sounding pretty good. They are coming through my neck of the woods this month, hopefully I can carve out the time to go see them!

Man I love you Blindrabbit! As per your mention I checked tour dates, and it appears they will be playing just outside Boston on the 30th! I have a possible chance of going to that show!

Everything they have released thus far is worth listening to, even the EP's. *that I'd leave this here*

Awesome! October 12th for me...so actually not this month, but rather a month away. I tried to get my band on their bill, but it wasn't really a fit. I'll still go and enjoy the show though! :)

I'd say that Dug Birdzell from the hardcore band Beefeater is hands down the most underrated post-punk bassist there is.

Great call. I love Watt, but always thought Dug should get more acclaim. Beefeater is one of the bands I play for people who think all punk is snotty no-talent screaming and noise.

@Black Bart
and
@Mr_Martin

were right on as well. I mentioned Dave Allen in the first post, and I was a big Boingo head.
