New Wentz bass coming.

Firstly, hats off to Harper for brushing off the negativity.

What little I know about Fallout Boy is just enough to know they're not geared towards my demographic anyway, so I personally have no stake in what kind of player Wentz is.

But bashing on Fender for making an instrument like this seems silly to me. I assume they do it because it will sell. Isn't that a good thing for a business to do? Sure, it's cool for everyone when a signature instrument is that of a great player like Geddy or Steve Harris, but those basses are made simply because those guys are popular. Yeah, Bob Babbit is deserving of a signature instrument, but that's not going to get the kids into the Guitar Center. Those of us who do appreciate his work are probably not the type who go buy an instrument because someone's name is on it anyway. Maybe instead of throwing stones at Fender, we should make our own company that produces signature basses of only those who are "worthy", and see if that's a good way to stay in business.


I don't do purple anything, but that bass is pretty cool looking.

Watching him as a bassist, yes, his technique sucks. I'm better at playing arpeggios, chord tones, etc. and he's better at selling concert tickets and cashing checks. Who is the winner?

And darn you for seeing through my ruse of using latin to win an argument....Illegitimi non carborundum! :D

Bob Babbitt is suppose to be getting a Fender Signature bass too. But due to the economy, has been put on hold. I think he's more deserving than Pete Wentz. Especially when there is already a Wentz Signature.

Really though, aren't Pete Wentz fans mainly teenage girls who probably don't even play bass? I don't see the point here of a signature. I guess the Squier Sig. must have did good in sales. I guess...

The inner-marketing ******* in me thinks the idea is to get all of those teenage girls to start playing Bass in the first place.

And for only $100-200 for an asinine signature model, why wouldn't they?

Wow alot of people are passing the Haterade today

Please lets be civil this is what makes TB TB and not one of those other bass sites
okay so we all cant like a certain bass
but lets not let this get out of control like the Bongo threads and what not
FWIW I dont primarily care for the PW Bass but I can see how fans of FOB would want a cheap instrument to learn on and thats not a bad thing is it???

I'll be honest that I don't listen to this band, but thats not what the issue is with this. The fact that Fender is putting R&D dollars into another Pete Wentz signature just doesn't thrill me.

To be on the extreme, I'd rather see them design a Jeff Buckley signature telecaster than another Wentz. I know that he's both a guitarist and not as well recognized as Wentz, but I feel Fender should honor those who brought their instruments to another level- not just dollar signs.

But, I think the point is being missed. Pete isn't great. I have one of the last Blender mags where he admits he can't play that well. But, his name sells. Anything he touches is turning to gold. Why wouldn't Fender/Squier do this? It's a money maker especially at this price. Pete does what he has to do for his band. He isn't a solo artist. He doesn't overplay, even if he could play great.

And to the one who is looking for info on this bass, it's the exact same as the previous bass with the purple instead of the red.
