+1 on reaper, best low cost daw recording software around.
If you're looking for something free and simple, Audacity should work. Just set the Zoom B3 as your input device. If you haven't tried it yet it's a wonderful little swiss army knife type audio recording toolbox and there's tons of online help available.

Audacity sucks. Reaper sucks. Free recording software in general is terrible. Garage Band is the only free recording software that is even worth trying.

I disagree. Reaper is a very good program and is very powerful and easy to use and is used by many people. Seems like you like the interface and graphics of Garageband.
Further more, I've decided that this unit is petty high on my best bass purchases list. Sims are great, effects are useful, tuner is acceptable and I love having a looper to play around with. Spent hours yesterday just jamming over different drum patterns. Now I'm gonna see how it stacks up in Audacity.

is it possible to turn off everything; no eq, no amp model, no efx whatever no nothing and save it as a patch? and then does it sound sound the same as your clean bass tone?
my bass with its onboard pre sounds beautiful going straight to the board or amp so i want my clean tone to remain the same but i'd love to get this b3 for some mod effects, delay, looping and headphone amp etc that will be awesome!

Yeah, I'm loving the looper too. I like that you can record a pattern, back out to the patch view, change your sound, then go in and add new layers on top. I haven't tried recording with it yet, but I will today I think. I use Ableton Live so I'll post how well it interfaces with it. I assume it'll work the same as any other ASIO compatible device.
You can definitely set a patch with everything turned off. I think you have to have some sort of effect loaded into each of the three slots but they don't have to be on.
I haven't actually done an A/B test through the unit with all efects bypassed compared to straight into my amp, but it honestly sounds pretty transparent to me. Enough that I haven't felt that it was necessary to test it out. I'll check for you this afternoon though. I've gotta say I think the pedal is quite worth it.

So essentially you could program anything into slots 1-3, but simply don't turn them on. Every time you dial up your "empty" patch, none of the effects in the patch will be active. This would send your signal through the patch without any effects. I don't believe the B3 is true bypass, but I will say that I am pretty hyper-sensitive to any tone degradation, and I notice nothing at all in the way of tone loss going through the B3 without effects being on. YMMV, as everyone's ears are different. I'd recommend ordering from any place that will offer a return policy if possible if you find the B3 degrades your tone in "bypass" mode.

i'd like to ask you, in general, do you find the amp models, drives and mod/synth/delay effects on the B3 realistically usable? i'd love it even if 60% of whats available is GOOD!!
also am suddenly wondering does it have a metronome along with all the rhythm tracks??
edit: on that note am going to find its manual and read it up!

Most of the dirt pedal models have a blend knob, many of the other effects do as well. The amp models have a blend on the speaker emulation. There is a blend available for each patch that would essentially blend all three effects as one loop.

I had a little trouble using a footswitch. i tested the Boss FS-5l but didn't worke. When i press the foot the B3 goes to tuner mode and mutes the sound. And the other functions like deactivate one of the three Switches (1-2-3) also doesn't work.
Can someone say to me if it's a trouble with no using a zoom product or is it a problem with my unit?
