New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

Honestly, I LOVE my B:Assmaster, but the B3n is so close that I'd say save your money. My board is currently made up of the B3n almost exclusively, save for a few utility pedals (tuner, gate) and an analog delay. I'm not finding any of the effects on board lacking for my purposes in a significant way.
Very cool! Thank you. I love the idea of a "on in all" solution. I just wish it a USB audio interface. Maybe the next version...
Thanks again Paul!

Just got one in and the BaMnPitch module has a HUGE bug - the pitch shifted sound is about 6 db louder than the original signal :( . I want to use it to drop tune a half step for some songs but can't deal with that boost. The other pitch shifter works fine but seems quite a bit more "chorusy" than this one. I've contacted Zoom about it - I'll let youse guys know what they have to say.

I noticed that too - going to have to use it in patch mode with a clean preamp set to bring it back to unity (reduce output)

Here's a quick clip with some dinky noodly riffs. It's not perfect, but hopefully it'll help.

The order for all of them is clean (Kallas/Warmoth Jag, Reeves C225, Greenboy Dually T, Heil PR40), B:Assmaster, B3n, B3n with additional processing. The last clip has a filter added to the end of the chain.

A few things I noticed. In addition to the High-mids ripping through with the B:Assmaster, it also adds a nice bump in the lower mids. I only tested the fuzz last night, without any of the clean blended in on either pedal, so I didn't notice that. I'd guess that this could be added with a PEQ, bumping the lo channel in the splitter, or just blending in more clean .

Recording direct I noticed that even with the HPF on the B3n, the Highs were still harsh, so I added an additional HPF around 3k in my DAW, but I'm sure it could be replicated in the B3n by some tweaking.

The B:Assmster really shines in the 3rd clip to me, which was an attempt to show that touch sensitivity and super clean gate. I haven't nailed that on the B3n

The filter (B3n Bass auto wah) at the end was mostly to goof off, but also to show that if you're adding another serious effect afterwards, the differences become less apparent.

Let me know if you have any questions!
Paul

Very cool and a huge help!
Thank you so much!

Problem I have is I have one song (RawHide! LOL) that we play tuned down (I usually stay in standard with the pitch shifter on for that band) but has a 1/2 step modulation up in it and I've been cheating by just punching out the pitch shifter on my MS-60B.

Try the RC Boost. You can dial the Gain all the way back to make it "clean" while turning the Volume up to taste.
Thanks, I''ll try that - I was afraid it had a baked in EQ or some other problem. My "always on" "Bass BB" is also clean when you do that - I was going to try a second one at the end of the chain just to boost to line level.

As I expected I got a form letter back from Zoom NA saying they will forward my "suggestion" to their engineers in Japan. I very specifically said "HUGE bug", not "suggestion". This is typical of Zoom IME - they really don't give a carp about their non-Japanese customers and culturally can't admit to mistakes made...

I wanted to pop by this tread and give a genuine thanks for all that have contributed. I have spent the past week or two reading every single post of this thread and I'm glad I took the time. I bought the Zoom B3n a little over a year ago for use as mainly a headphone amp and only intended to use some basic EQ. I'm one of the types that doesn't really use much for FX.

There's members of this board that helped me figure out settings, firmware updates, patches and so much more. This thread has quickly become one of my favorite sources of knowledge on TalkBass.

The discovery of the LOW EQ and HIGH EQ options, in addition to the ZNR have really helped me clean up my everyday sound. I still use my MXR Compressor as my main source of peak limiting for slap, but the Zoom B3n has recently become an indispensable tool for me. I run it through the effects loop on my Bugera Veyron M and my Avatar B210 Neos couldn't be happier with the tighter response. I no longer fear engineers that have an overly zealous love affair with sub woofers and EDM/techno style boomy EQ that doesn't have much of a place for a funk/soul band.

The only downside this has created is that my Veyron DI out which I used to really like. I always prefer to give the FOH an uncolored signal, but the FX loop doesn't get fed to the XLR out on my amp when PRE-EQ is switched for the DI. So I will concede that I now need to bring a DI to all gigs in order to run between the Zoom B3n and the effects return of my amp in order to get the benefit of the Zoom's sound cleaning to both my rig and FOH.

Thanks Zoomers. You've been spectacular! :bassist:

So HighEQ set to LPF has helped me find an OD that I really like. I set it around 700, and al the annoying (to me) fizz is gone, and I’m left with beautiful wool! Using the BluBBOD as my OD, here’s the chain. This patch is for OD only.

Hi gals and guys
I've made an excel file with all effects and parameters per factory patch, in order to have a direct view to compare some effect settings, in the process of building my own patches.
I didn't really used it cause i quickly sold my B3n (back to pedals that suit my band real need: Keeley bassist + MXR M80 Di+)
It's a pleasure for me to share it with you; and hope it can help someone.
(Green cells are effects "ON" in the patches, grey ones are "OFF". The only things i 've changed in patches can be the master level cause some patches were very high in output when i tried them..)
No trap here: you can open the file safely ;)

I actually had the right most digital display on my zoom die on last night's gig. It lights up, but no text whatsoever. I just started putting this lovely processor into everyday use within the past month. I'm pretty sure I'm just out of warranty as well. I'll reach out to Zoom to see what they say.

Back up your patches on Guitar Lab and do a reboot!
