New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

When comparing B3n announcement posts on Zoom's Facebook pages it is interesting to see the level of excitement over in the Japanese market versus North America.

Sure, the Japanese market is also complaining about the lack of XLR output, but their 1.8K+ "Likes" speak volumes. Either that or bass playing is way more popular in Japan. :D

On facebook, we see clearly that's the only response of ZOOM on no more XLR and no more audio interface is a great improvement of the sound (and for me the aux in). The build construction is a wrong pb, the g3n look very solid.
So, wait and we'll see if the sound of this box is amazing... ;)

Congratulations! Did you ask about the language on the unit? Also, may I ask how much it was shipped and all?

Thanks! It's in English. The total cost I paid as of now is $212.99, for both shipment and the unit. That's exclusive of the tax when it arrives at our Customs, which is around 20%. We have a corrupt Customs here so it can't be avoided.

As for the XLR out, I have a VT Bass DI and a Zoom B3 just in case I need one, so no problems there.

Anyone have patch for tool - sober. Sound??

B3 or B3n? The B3n is just released and I'm guessing there are only a handful of people not affiliated with ZOOM that even have one of these in hand.

I'm sure you can get an "Undertow" vintage tone out of the B3n, and I have a tone in my B3 already set up in the ballpark. It works for my basses and the way I play, which doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you. It's pretty simple though: SVT amp model with SVT 8x10 cabinet; Ultra Hi/Low engaged (this will make your ears bleed, so be careful at high volumes auditioning it); back off Treble almost fully (-7 or so IIRC), and back off the Bass a couple notches. Mid Freq set to 1k or 1.2k (??). Set the Cab/Dry mix to taste, but I usually have this up around 70% cabinet. Also, adjust the amp gain so that it breaks up a little when you play hard. Throw on whatever flavor of chorus/flange/pitch shift you like to get the chorus sound at the breakdown toward the end of Sober.

Last night I found myself once again trying to program an overdriven sound into my B3 and running up against the wall of only 3 effects. With the ZNR Noise Reduction taking up one of the slots it made it impossible to add the filter I wanted on top of the Squeak and Octaver. I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on the B3n and solve all these problems.

Good times are coming!

Thanks man ill try it out. I just got mine a couple days ago. Its a b3.

Hey! Get out of our B3n thread! :rage: Just kidding. Many of us have had good success with the B3, and I'm still keeping mine even if it isn't any longer my go-to pedal anymore. Enjoy!

BTW, forgot to add that the 1.2k setting on the midrange frequency allows you to add extra upper mid GACK to the tone to give it even MORE bite. If you back it off, you get a more polite upper mid scoop that's more round. That tone Paul D'Amour got on Undertow is really nasty...one of my favorites.

An error on my part regarding whether you have the ability to DELETE items from the unit that you don't want, if it ever becomes an issue with memory - I was completely WRONG! Yes, you actually can delete an effect from the unit's memory. It never dawned on me to select the EFFECT icon which lists all of the effects by Type, and then RIGHT CLICK on a specific effect. Lo and behold, there is a short drop down list that shows "Delete From Device" as one of the options. Doh! (Shoulda read TFM!).

Anyway, this is good news if the amp, cab and effect list of downloads ever gets so massive that you need to pick and choose what to keep to stay within the memory limit. As you can see, Used Memory, Ratio is 56% now. I just uploaded a few more new items and it's hovering around 58% (Zoom just added a Diezel amp and a Particle Verb among other things. Cool.).

Woah, that's an amazing price point. I need.

Have you gotten to play with yours yet? I'd love to know your impressions of the amp models
