New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

The only new "n" series product that has USB audio is the G5n, which occasionally goes on sale for only $50 more than the $199US retail price of the B5n. Of course, the big difference with the G5n is the number of switches (and size footprint) and that it is guitar-oriented with the amps and most effects.

However, FWIW, a number of modeler multi-fx don't sport USB audio, Fractal AX8, Kemper Profiling Amp, and Atomic Amplifire among them. I would say, though, that the vast majority of multi-fx pedals these days do have USB audio, and you'd have though ZOOM would include it in these pedals. Oh well... (glad I have a G5n).

As we near the Guitar Lab Update for March 2017, my prediction for the next new B3n amp and cab models are the Ampeg B-15 and companion 1x15 cabinet.

I believe this as Zoom does not yet have a 15" cabinet model in the B3n stable and this would nicely herald and give additional weight to the North American release of the B3n.

We shall see! ;)

To all of you soon to be getting a B3n - I certainly hope it turns out to meet all of your expectations, 'cuz this unit is about the most anticipated product I've seen here on TB.com!
I agree wholeheartedly! :)
The clips I've heard so far really don't wow me? or sound much different than the B3? Eat least to my ears anyway. But I can certainly recognize the improvements i.e. more effects per patch, easier patch switching etc.
I just hope you guys aren't sad :(
As Jimfist is likely to point out it is a $200 pedal but will most likely surpass many items in that price range. :)
Top of the mornin' to ya! :)

IMO the most effective use of the pedal would be for front-end effects, loading up all 7 slots, and using the Scroll function to access all of them without needing to change presets. B3 will only ever do 3 slots and 3 switches.

As for product demos online, I never read too much into them, regardless of the product, no matter the cost of the piece of gear. Just as much of the tone produced has to do with the bass itself and the player as it does to do with any piece of gear, whether it's a multi-fx modeler or the "real" stomps, amps and cabinets.

I agree, though, that there's nothing white-hot about the B3n sounds from what's been demo'd online so far, unless all you care about are special effects. I mentioned a while ago that I wished some of these demos spent a lot more time on the amps and cabinets, and forget about the whiz-bang crap.

Based on what I've heard of the G5n and the quality of its amp/cab modeling, I'm pretty confident that it will be an overall improvement - for my purposes - over the B3. YMMV. JMHO.

From my perspective, the B3n is what I had hoped the B3 would be, an MS60B on steroids. The fact that I can have three slots, each with seven possible spots for effects, available at the click of a button, is a game changer for me.
I bought the 60b at its release, and loved the sounds I was able to coax out of it, but hated the user interface. The A, B, C was just a pain in the butt. So I bought a B3 and, again, loved the sounds, hated the interface. I eventually got rid of both.
I have since bought and sold two more 60b's. Any time I feel the need for a utility pedal, I buy one. I am now on my fourth one. I bought it again as a utility, but found myself in a situation where I needed it as my main tone generator. Did some woodshedding on some patches, and came up with some amazing tones!
Once I realized how the user interface will work on the B3n, I put the majority of my board (including my board!) up for sale and preordered the N. If it sounds as good as my 60B, I'll be totally happy! If it sounds better.....icing!

Ok. I'm just wondering why you feel that the SA Aftershock specifically targets the B3k? Is there some sort of product description that states this, or a statement from someone at SA where they say that they produced the Aftershock with the B3k in mind?
There are several models of Darkglass products available to download into the After Shock. Hope this clears things up.

@dannybuoy (sorry Johno)

Then you're absolutely correct! It's pretty interesting that Source Audio allows for storing and MIDI recall of up to 128 presets in the Aftershock. I don't follow SA too closely, but it looks to be pretty good stuff.

Got it! There are Darkglass presets available in the Aftershock. Yes, I hope the B3n does a good job emulating the Darkglass stuff. I briefly owned a B3k, used it a couple gigs, and found that I could just as easily get these overdrive tones with gear I already own, so I flipped it. Quality gear, though, no doubt.

I'm not familiar with the After Shock, it was just a guess.

I feel the same about the DG stuff. I've owned a VMT, and I had a Vulcan (Pike) and the Porkloin I had at the time, did what I wanted better than both. I too am hoping that the N does that tone well. I could use it in a spot or two.

It's common knowledge that there are two Darkglass inspired models in the Aftershock, check out the dedicated threads if you want confirmation directly from the horse's mouth. I don't think they sound very close to a B3K or Vintage though.

Thanks for the info. Like I said before, I don't follow much of the SA stuff or their threads and had no idea that they had presets named for the Darkglass pedals. I did a quick search on my own and found nothing, but @BrentSimons set me straight. ;-)
