New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

After a few days playing I'm REALLY amazed at how good the B3N sounds. I'm a REAL effects snob and was using stuff like:

Keeley Bassist Comp
Darkglass BK3
Red Witch Factotum
MXR Phase 95
EBS D-Phaser
Etc....

I NEVER thought of Zoom as anything other than cheap effects for beginners before now but man I was seriously wrong!

In addition to the quality of the effects, the ease of use, simplicity and flexibility are incredible. Wondering why more "top artists" aren't using this? They don't seem to have any endorsers.

That's a darn good compliment considering the effects you listed in your arsenal! :) I just need to hear a really good comparison up against the B3 or heck I might just buy one! ;)

Don't really have a way to record it, but the ease of use alone is worth it.
I hear ya. But honestly I use so few effects these days the 3 effect limit usually doesn't bother me on my B3. I know I'm probably part of the minority. But I have a patch that is amp sim + comp + maybe a modulation or octaver and then I'll have a patch that is just set up as foot pedals overdrive +comp + mod or octaver.

Where I find the multiple combinations affective is, for instance, I have a patch set up for the song Chameleon. It has Octaver, ParaEQ, Comp and Ztron. Could not do that on the B3, but on the N it is one click away. I have a Ztron patch set up that would not sound nearly as good as just a single effect as it does with a compressor, a ParaEQ, and a Di5. And again, one click away. The amp sims sound great run through the Di5, a comp and the ParaEQ. I have a patch set up for Slap, and it's one click away, so I can go to it for a chorus and go right back to my main patch. This versatility main not be what everyone needs, but it's what I've been waiting for since I bought my first 60b, and it's changed the game for me. Oh, and I'mkeeping the 60b to use as a tuner and a HPF (AcBsPre).

Update - So I apparently stated some Alternative Facts here. I was playing amplified (not headphones) today at a pretty good volume, and I'll be dammed...there is a whine when both are plugged into the Volto, even on its separate outlets. It isn't loud, but I did notice it finally.

WTH?

So...now what? Do I go with a cheap 9v battery adapter for the TurboTuner since it doesn't use much juice and isn't often on, or find another, even higher-capacity battery pack I can shove under the Pedaltrain just for the B3n.

Sorry that I was the bearer of bad news, but in my case the solution to this was inexpensive, that is, I just powered the B3n using its own wall wart and then powered the remaining pedals using another wall wart.

In the case of the Volto, the cost is unfortunately more significant.

I thought I had found the whine today, but then realized I had my cell phone in my pocket. I tried hooking up the 60b in front of the N, and still no whine

I am sorry brother Johno, but I have positively tested the B3n and MS-60B to both whine when chained in this way.

I believe you are being spared from this due to the limited frequency response of 210AV cabs not reaching above 4.5 kHz where the whine exists and/or you have a ZNR in place in the chain masking the issue.

I would say, if you cannot hear it then you are a lucky man and I envy you ;)

Cheers!

Yes i can see that. Certainly more handy to be able to have those chains with one click.

That very well could be. Or it could be old ears, but I had no issues through FOH at church. No ZNR.

8 hours thus far and 3 lights still lit. Gonna have to shut it down at midnight and resume tomorrow AM. This setup is gig worthy, no doubt. LOL. Might make it through 3-4 gigs!
Okay. I didn't catch the final moment but the run time was 11 1/2 - 12 hours.
Edit: Might be a false alarm. Perhaps the unit shut itself off after 12 hours. I'll investigate further tomorrow.
