Kyler Murray is the second highest paid QB in the NFL? Is that a joke? Or, I suppose NFL teams find themselves in the position now where they're forced to pay players what they can be worth or what another player better than them makes, but since they play the same position the lesser player gets that much or more.
The NFL is broken.

This is how I know Kyler Murray isn't a legit NFL QB, from an article on the ESPN website:
"Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray's recently signed contract extension includes an addendum that requires him to study film for four hours per week during the season to stay in compliance with the new deal".

But hey, it gets even better: "Murray will not get credit if he's not studying or watching the material while it plays on his tablet or if he's doing something that can distract him or draw his attention elsewhere while the material is playing, such as playing video games, watching TV or browsing the internet".
Are you kidding me? How old is Murray? Nine?
Is his mom going to be there telling him...OK Kyler, it's not video game time. You need to watch your NFL game film now for four more hours, then you're done for the week. Put down the Juicy Juice too, that's only if you're a good boy.
Isn't that what you do as an NFL QB? How embarrassing for Murray, but then again he isn't embarrassed about the money he is making I suppose. Still, come on man.

Yeah, I can just picture him telling his friends not to call or text during his study time, as he's grounded from his phone for those four hours.

Poor guy ain't never gonna live this down. Nor should he. Imagine all the wisecracks the next time there's a broken play or he fires off an easy INT.

I don't think he'll be in the NFL long enough to play out that contract. Maybe he can backup Johnny Manziel in that goofball league he plays in.

What gets me is the Cardinals (under Bidwill Sr.) were the cheapest, stingiest franchise in the league. He would deduct the cost of the cap they'd hand out to the draft picks when they'd receive their first paycheck.

Under Bidwill Jr, the opposite has occurred. He isn't afraid to open up the checkbook. Don't get me wrong, it's nice being a competitive team and being able to land some significant free agents over the years since Jr took over. But I still cannot understand why anybody would pay top dollars to a guy who hasn't won a playoff game, nor picked his team up when necessary. Usually it's been the other way around. The brass balls Murray and his agent must have to even ask for such money is incomprehensible to many of us. And Bidwill Jr's concession to pay it is even more astounding.

Yep, and those brass balls are the new reality of the NFL. Sadly.
We're going to see more and more guys getting paid the same as or more as the guy ahead of them regardless if they are any good or not.

Bidwill has gone whole hog here, for better or worse. He also gave Kingsbury and the GM big extensions at the same time.

Before people blame this all on Murray, they should consider Kingsbury's record. The Cards are fading in the second half of every season. And the exact same thing happened under Kingsbury at Texas Tech.

I think the coaching may be a bigger issue than the QB.

I'm not questioning his physical talent. He has that in spades indeed. Impressive athlete.
I don't think he has the rest of the game that's necessary to turn into a Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, yada yadda. Some guys have it, some don't.
Murray does not in my opinion. He'll spectacularly flame out and some will lament the wasted talent.

He could still be a top 5 QB, if not #1. His numbers have improved every year so far--win/loss, completion %, TD pass %, INT %, and overall rating. And he was top 10 in QBR this past season. He definitely stunk in that playoff game, though. I understand why the Cards are keeping him, even if the jury is still out.

I love you like a brother Greg, but I have to disagree with that idea of Murray ever being a top five NFL QB.
