It's a newer rule that quite frankly sucks.

Per Article 3, Note 6 in NFL rulebook: "If any part of the foot hits out of bounds during the normal continuous motion of taking a step (heel-toe or toe-heel), then the foot is out of bounds. A player is inbounds if he drags his foot, or if there is a delay between the heel-toe or toe-heel touching the ground."

It's one of those picky rules that just over complicate the game.

I sure love it how the NFL decided to make the rules more complicated.

I woke up just as the Koo FG tied the game and dozed off until I watched that catch and run from Hodge. Now that was cool to see him pull away from everyone. The thing I liked the most about his run is he didn't start showboating or looking all over the field. He focused on the end zone and bolted for it, only glancing over his shoulder once to each side in quick succession when he broke into clear field. I knew nothing about KhaDarel Hodge before last night, but I already like how he plays.

He’s had a long journey, JUCO and a smaller school. He’s been a pro about 7 seasons and has been at ATL for a few. He’s not flashy and is usually special teams or WR4 range. But he does his job. Under the radar workman.
My guess is if Drake wasn’t trucked a couple plays before he would have been out there instead. But I’m thrilled we got the win.

Now that this idea that Justin Fields is the next franchise QB has come back to earth, it shouldn't be so difficult to put him on the bench and let Russell Wilson take a spin at QB.
It's certainly not Fields fault for the loss against Dallas, but he made some bad throws last night and once again it took over 30 minutes for the offense to get going, 89 yards in the first half. All the while, they're wasting away big plays from the defense. There's coming a time when Heyward will be gone and TJ will or longer require 2-3 guys blocking him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if the NFL really wants to keep games moving along then just adopt the NCAA's "one foot in" rule and a LOT of these things go away. I mean it took them HOW many years to even decide what constitutes a catch (and it still seems like sometimes they aren't 100% certain) so be done with this aspect of it in the simplest manner possible. One foot in equals two knees or some Madden-esque homily.

17 points ain't gonna get it done in most games. There's plenty of blame (mediocrity) to go around in this situation. I still think Fields would be OK if he had more than one receiver to throw to and the freedom to make those throws. The o-line is not terrible, but not good enough. The run game is non-existent with just Harris out there.

The D is still pretty good considering how thin they are at some positions.

I wouldn't mind giving Wilson a go at this point, but I'm not sure the results will be much better unless the other issues are resolved.

It's early yet and the Bears' opponents have been on the weaker side the past couple weeks, so I don't want to make too much of this. But these numbers suggest some progress.

Maybe the Bears and Panthers can petition the NFL to let them play only each other for the rest of the season. The Bears could pad their record and the Panthers could get a short cut to a #1 overall pick (which they'd no doubt bungle, but that's a different story).

Jags next week then a bye. Bears schedule is really backloaded so they need to ramp up if they want to compete and it sure seems like wild card is the only path in the NFC Central North.

He does seem to be learning something. Nobody has explained the facts of Bear quarterbacks to him yet, or maybe he wasn't listening.

I'm a little surprised at how invisible Odunze has been so far.

I'm fairly convinced at this point that the NFL itself wants to be as involved in these games as much as the players. They overcomplicate matters so much that good portions of the game we see the refs and whatever they are doing on the sideline rather frequently.
I like your idea on the catch rule.

Oh my every big boy was smiling watching the Saints #50 bumblin and stumblin down the sideline after that one handed interception. Leveled Kelce on one play, then an interception the next.
I sure was.
