NFL Week #17

What a great game between the Packers and Lions. Kinda tough to argue that even Rodgers would have had a better day than Flynn did. He's definitely gonna be getting offers to be a starter next year and pull in some starter money. Be surprised to see the Pack match it or him turn down a chance to be a starter, he is a QB, he wants to be in the spotlight. He's got his ring, now he's gonna want to go out and win one for himself.

Stafford just finished the Season with 40 TDs and 5k passing yards, only 2 QBs in the history of the NFL has ever done that, Marino and Brees. He and Dan are the only guys under the age of 28 to throw for 40 TDs, both at the age of 23. Not bad for a kid that didn't even make the Pro Bowl.

Lions have as good a shot as anyone in the playoffs, they can match points with anyone.

Didn't see any cheap shots from Suh (or any of the Lions) on the QB, just a couple from the Packers.

Call the wahmbulence! There were bad calls both ways. How about the roughing on Bishop where Stafford dove like Ronaldo?

Stafford had a great year. The call against Bishop was crap. The one against 93 was legit, and he is a legit dumbass.

I liked on the lions 1st TD where he tried to do a lambeau leap and the packer fan stuffed him back into the field.

Stafford and Johnson are special.

There was one cheap shot they only showed once on replay after going to commercial on a punt return where a lions player shoved a packer player in the back after the play was over.

Didn't hear Suhs name today much.

Detroits personality is obviously to be the bad boys of the NFL. Nice that the good guys could pull it out today, second and third stringers and all

Suh got a sack today, don't you remember the booing when he did the discount double-check dance move?

As far as the call on Bishop, that play was whistled dead for delay of game BEFORE the snap, he ran 10 yards and delivered a pretty solid forearm to Stafford's chest. Maybe Stafford embellished it a bit but that play was over for a good 3-4 seconds and everyone was standing still, except for Bishop who still felt the need to make contact with Stafford. I'm sure that the Lions would have gladly traded 2-3 "bad" calls like that for getting an obvious TD called back and getting the ball back after a fumbled punt.

Either way, the calls were what they were and the Packers got the W today. It was a fun game to watch with tons of offense.

I don't remember Young getting stuffed by Packers fans after the first TD, the guys he jumped up to were wearing Lions blue and he gave them the ball. It looked to me more like he just couldn't jump that high or have the proper technique down.

I was pretty surprised that Packers RB Ryan Grant drew a 15 yard penalty for excessive celebration for making a snow angel in the end zone, before he got up, after scoring a TD.

A boy named Suh did the Rodgers belt thing after he sacked Matt Flynn in the third quarter. Wonder when he will come up with his own celebration dance?

With a tick south of 1k yards passing in the GB/ DT game, I would say that the pass defense of either of the 2 teams would drop them from being favored to go all the way.
That is a s**tload of yards to be giving up for playoff caliber teams.
Just my 2 pennies worth.

The two top seeds have pass defenses in the bottom third of their conferences. I suspect it has to do with two things, one they both score a lot of points so teams have to pass to keep up with them. And two, the refs don't call holding and with the exception of Lions receivers they don't call offensive pass interference any more :D

The fact is you can't stop a great, much less good QB in this league if you can't get to the passer and it's very hard to do with the rules protecting QB's. The receivers are just too big and skilled, Calvin Rogers is bigger than most linebackers, and guys like Driver or Jordy Nelson aren't far behind. Pettigrew and Jermichael Findlay are bigger than defensive ends of decade ago. How do you cover that with a 200 pound safety?

Until the DB's catch up to the talent on the receiving end, it's going to be this way for a while. The days of defenses dominating are done, and the league wants it that way. When is the last time a big hit made Sportcenter? Probably when someone got fined for it. ;)

The teams that win now for the most part have mediocre running games, great OL's, better receivers, and a great QB. On defense the formula seems to be get a takeaway or slow down the other team, stopping great offenses doesn't happen. It will be interesting to see if the Niners (a throwback team) can change this in the playoffs. I'm not betting on it.

Thank you Jason Taylor- class act all the way. I have heard Tom Brady say he feared Taylor more than any end and off the field are great friends who share mutual respect. Sucks he spent some time as a Jet :scowl:

Ooof, another bad game from my man Tebow. Well, the Broncos backed into the playoffs, and they're probably not going to look good next week, either. I'm sure the folks who already dislike Tebow will rush to call him a fraud or something. To them I say, shaddap and let's see what a real offseason does for his game.

I think the Lions can keep it close if the Saints refs don't call 5-6 offensive pass interference penalties. But the Saints are a better team because they can keep the ball away from Stafford with their running game. I doubt the Lions can do the same to Breeze. :D

As far as todays game, the Lions had one non fumble given to the Packers. One Fumble (muffed punt) not called, and the Refs clearly missed a Titus Young TD (It wasn't even close it was just a pathetic call). That's four points and two extra possessions the Packers got, not to mention a ridiculous pass interference call on Chris Houston on the Packs last drive.

I am really sick of the lousy whistle the Lions get, especially after growing up a Pistons fan and seeing a national sport actually change the rules to keep the Pistons from winning. Sorry, but it makes for a pisser of a New Years.

As far as the Lions I'm satisfied with the Season, they finished about where they should have. They are the 5th or 6th best team in the conference at this point. The encouraging thing is their issues are fixable, and next years schedule is soft. They have three true superstars to build on in Stafford, Suh and Johnson and a lot of great complimentary pieces. They are young, and they lost two of their top three draft choices to injury this year, healthy and with a good draft I suspect Detroit fans have a lot to look forward too, maybe even a team good enough to beat the refs too. :p

Fixed it for ya!

Some mighty good points but I would expect a team as potent offensively with a better defense than what these 2 exhibited today will win out.
In my opinion, if neither of them figures out what to do to stop similar offenses they will be sunk in short order.

The Lions face New Orleans next week and I dont see them getting past that mountain.
A few weeks back I started to see the Saints as the NFC champs, and I havent seen anything to sway my opinion since.

I happen to agree. The Saints running game will be the difference against the Packers.

If giving up yards in the passing game mattered, the top two seeds in the NFL wouldn't be ranked 31st and 32nd in passing D. They still won the most games.

A good D may knock out one of the big gunning teams but I just don't see it happening 3-4 weeks in a row with so many guys putting up the kind of passing numbers (and more importantly POINTS) some guys are putting up this year.

3 Guys broke the 5k passing yard mark this year (would have been 4 if Rodgers played today). Only 2 guys had ever broke the 5k mark before this year. The Golden Age of the Big Gun QB is upon us.

As Dan Marino once said, "it is impossible to defend a perfectly thrown pass." With the rule changes to favor the passing game, this is even more true today.
