Except, It wasn't the Penalties today.:rolleyes:

It was the blind ref who didn't see Titus young coming down with both feet inside the End Zone with almost a yard to spare. It wasn't a bad call it was a pathetic call. And the blind refs who gave the Packers the ball when a Lion fumbled well after being down and then when Jordy Nelson dropped the ball on a fair catch somehow it wasn't a fumble? That's four points and two possessions that have nothing to do with penalties. As far as the game the Lions got over confident when they went up 9-0. Then they went flat for a few series.

The penalties were about even, a few missed calls on both sides, but the absurd miss on the TD was unforgivable. It was just a pathetic missed call. Four points, happens to be the difference in the game, that's huge. No team should have to overcome that. You're not going to beat the Pack in Lambeau (and the Lions were missing three starters themselves) if the refs give the Pack four points and two extra possessions. :rollno:

So, a offense should not try to score points during the entire game? It's sad you don't realize these are grown men out on the field. In the NFL, teams do not get a trophy for participation and there is a winner & a loser.

Gee, that's funny; I didn't hear anyone complain when Brees was passing (while running up the score against Atlanta) to set the passing record last week but because it's the Patriots people cry foul.

Go check Pete Prisco and Jason Cole out before you assume that Brees and company got a "pass" for what happened on MNF against the Failclowns (another one-and-done in the playoffs team). There was a lot of fingerpointing and name calling going on...and none of it was valid.

And as for the personal foul on Brady's INT, that was the biggest steaming pile of horse manure I've seen this year. But it didn't affect the outcome one tiny bit.

As far as todays game, the Lions had one non fumble given to the Packers. One Fumble (muffed punt) not called, and the Refs clearly missed a Titus Young TD (It wasn't even close it was just a pathetic call). That's four points and two extra possessions the Packers got, not to mention a ridiculous pass interference call on Chris Houston on the Packs last drive.

I am really sick of the lousy whistle the Lions get, especially after growing up a Pistons fan and seeing a national sport actually change the rules to keep the Pistons from winning. Sorry, but it makes for a pisser of a New Years.

As far as the Lions I'm satisfied with the Season, they finished about where they should have. They are the 5th or 6th best team in the conference at this point. The encouraging thing is their issues are fixable, and next years schedule is soft. They have three true superstars to build on in Stafford, Suh and Johnson and a lot of great complimentary pieces. They are young, and they lost two of their top three draft choices to injury this year, healthy and with a good draft I suspect Detroit fans have a lot to look forward too, maybe even a team good enough to beat the refs too. :p

Those OPI calls were valid, each and every one. Maybe the Lions receivers need to learn to get open without cheating? The guy NOT cheating, Calvin Johnson, got 6 catches for 69 yards that night - because the Saints D is good enough to cover your receivers when they're not PUSHING OFF. :)

I must admit, Burk is taking whining about officials to a new level.

The only undisputable call the refs missed in the Lions Packers game was the non touchdown. The refs clearly missed that. The fumble did not have a clear view upon replay. Nelson's alleged muff could have gone either way. He held on to the ball AT LEAST as long as Megatron did on his TD catch. There were questionable calls both ways. In the end, THE BETTER TEAM WON....even though they did sit the starting right and left offensive tackles, a former defensive MVP, a presumptive NFL MVP and past Superbowl MVP, an All Pro Linebacker, the #1 running back, and #1 wide reciever.

The fact is you can't stop a great, much less good QB in this league if you can't get to the passer and it's very hard to do with the rules protecting QB's. The receivers are just too big and skilled, Calvin Rogers is bigger than most linebackers, and guys like Driver or Jordy Nelson aren't far behind. Pettigrew and Jermichael Findlay are bigger than defensive ends of decade ago. How do you cover that with a 200 pound safety?

Until the DB's catch up to the talent on the receiving end, it's going to be this way for a while. The days of defenses dominating are done, and the league wants it that way. When is the last time a big hit made Sportcenter? Probably when someone got fined for it. ;)

The teams that win now for the most part have mediocre running games, great OL's, better receivers, and a great QB. On defense the formula seems to be get a takeaway or slow down the other team, stopping great offenses doesn't happen. It will be interesting to see if the Niners (a throwback team) can change this in the playoffs. I'm not betting on it.

I'd be in favor of an instant replay rule change where all close plays in the endzone are reviewed, not just plays ruled a score. That Titus Young pass was a TD. As it was, it was over a 3.5 hr game. I don't know how they could speed these reviews up. Maybe they need to have an official upstairs doing nothing but reviews like in College FB.

The NHL conducts all reviews from their "war room" where a group of guys monitor all games played that day. Maybe the NFL could centralize it that way too. The ref climbing under the giant hood seems like it is straight out of the 70's.
