11-5 last week, bringing the season to 26-20. Not that great. Just imagine if I had to try it against the spread!
A relatively banal week, but football is still football and I love it anyway.
San Francisco at New Orleans - Living in San Francisco, I've heard some 49ers fans saying that the NO and NE games in the next two weeks are games that the 9ers could win, and that after that there are games against Philly and the Giants, which they could split, and be 5-2 after 7 weeks. Friends, I love San Francisco dearly, and think of it as one of the only cities in the US I could live in, but whoa there! Delusion! SF falls back to earth with 4 losses before Seattle comes to SF, perhaps healthy, and SF's season is over. New Orleans wins.
Green Bay at Tampa Bay - This could be a good game. GB on the road after a tough loss that makes the Detroit and Minnesota games look a little more realistic. GB is still a good team. Al Harris being out will hurt. Being on the road will be a little tough, but Aaron Rodgers is playing very well. GB needs to get back to the ground game though. Green Bay should win.
Houston at Jacksonville - Not really sure what to make of Houston. How did they take such a big step backwards? What is going on with Schaub and Johnson? Don't know. I do know that Jacksonville's running game and special teams will be too much for Houston. Jacksonville should take this one 35-17 or so.
Cleveland at Cincinnati - Hmmm. Another odd game. Will Cleveland pull Anderson in favor of Quinn? If they do, will Winslow and Edwards finally start producing? Cincy showed some signs last week, and ultimately I think I like Cincinnati based upon that momentum and being at home.
Atlanta at Carolina - Atlanta is playing too poorly. Carolina is still the better team, and they're at home. Let's not forget which teams Atlanta has beat, by the way.
Arizona at NY Jets - I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets play to get a better idea of what their team is like. Their defense is what concerns me right now, and Arizona, I think, will take advantage of that. Welcome back Brett.
Minnesota at Tennessee - This is clearly the game of the week. Tennessee is riding a 6 game regular season winning streak, and have only allowed 29 points, total, this season. Minnesota is starting to figure it out, but Tennessee's defense, at home, is too much for Gus.
Denver at Kansas City - Blowout. Denver will get up early, and while Denver's defense has some holes, KC can't exploit them.
San Diego at Oakland - Oakland isn't as bad as that first game of the season. They have some parts. Really, what hurts them, is that they don't have any receivers, but even more importantly, Russell isn't there yet. I'm not sure if he'll ever get on track, but his play isn't consistent enough. He has amazing arm strength and good mobility, but he's not playing the game in an effective way right now. San Diego always beats Oakland, and that won't change this week, but Oakland can run the ball, that's for sure.
Buffalo at St. Louis - I hear some picking St. Louis. Don't know why? Perhaps because Trent Green will bring something fresh, (I can't believe I just wrote that), or because Oakland played Buffalo to the wire last week. Lynch's 125+ yards and 2 TDs against St. Louis' porous (run, especially) defense will be enough for Buffalo. Also, Trent Edwards is playing much better than many people have noticed. Buffalo gets the win.
Washington at Dallas - Washington always plays Dallas well, at least in the last 3 or 4 years. Kosier reinjured himself last week against GB, and that hurts the Cowboys a bit, but that offensive line, (which didn't have Kosier weeks 1 or 2), is playing, right now, better than any other unit in the league. Washington will play Dallas tough, that's for sure. No NFC East game this season will be easy, but, in the chatter about TO and Romo and all, people forget that Dallas has a tremendous offensive line and pass rush. Those two things alone will get you a lot of wins. Romo's mobility in the pocket is great, but he's been careless with the ball a bit in the pocket lately. I hope he'll correct that as the season goes. Dallas' defense has been impressive. The 2nd half against Philly was phenomenal, and holding GB without a TD until the game was pretty much decided, and only then after Barber fumbled as Dallas was driving very very effectively. Dallas' defense will fluster Campbell in the pocket. Washington will look for Moss deep, and they'll get him a couple of times, but on a consistent basis the Dallas pass rush will get to Campbell, close things up on Portis, and the Dallas offensive line will creat opportunities for Owens, Witten, Barber and F. Jones. Dallas, in a relatively close contest, after two weeks of tough games. Let's say 28-20. (Take a peek at Dallas' upcoming schedule. Arizona will be tougher than some think, but 8-0 heading into a game with the Giants, in New York, is completely possible).
Philadelphia at Chicago - Okay, I think it's as simple as this: If Westbrook and McNabb do not play, Chicago wins. If Westbrook does not play, but McNabb does, Chicago still gets the win. If McNabb and Westbrook, (which really means Westbrook only), play, Philadelphia wins. Man am I rooting for Chicago this week. As a Dallas fans, Philly, NYG, and Wash need to lose whenever they can.
Baltimore at Pittsburgh - Baltimore hasn't really impressed me, tremendously. Don't get me wrong, they've won, but Cleveland isn't the same team from last year. Not sure what that's about. And um, who did they beat the first week? Oh yeah, Cincinnati. Pittsburgh wins, even without Parker. Let's see what Mendenhall can do.
