NFL Week #5

I dunno, FAR-VUH hasn't seen a real pressure D so far this season, and I can pretty much bet that the Steelers will be throwing the kitchen sink at the old guy that day.

He takes a few sacks, or gets knocked down a few times, and that 40 years he's carrying around may start to hurt. That will definitely affect his production.

They'd better be riding the AP horse a LOT in that one...

:eyebrow: Hello? Have Adam and myself not been in the NFL threads for years? There are also one or two more that chime in from time to time as well. You guys just don't notice us as we don't come in trash talking and making a big stink over the last team the Colts beat. We are rather humble folk. ;)

BTW, Titans vs. Colts.

Actually, week five is normally right about when the Mannings and Bradys of the league lose their first game. I'm still callin the upset. :P

2006, the Saints went to the NFC Championship game, that would tend to indicate a winning season. They have actually won their division that year, and in 2000 & 1991. They have had playoff appearances in 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2000, and 2006. I could go on, they won their division 3 times and have had at least as many winning seasons as the Jags have had, FYI. ;)

The world seems just fine. They even have fans that actually show up at home games. :smug:

Even if they win the Super Bowl (a distinct possibility at this point, we shall see if it remains one: http://wolfpacksteelersfan.wordpress.com/2009/10/08/are-the-new-orleans-saints-for-real/#more-315 ) it will only SEEM that the world has turned upside down to everyone not a Saints fan.

However the fact is that it will just mean the world is finally right side up to some of us.

Really, it's so early in the season (although it does go by fast, doesn't it?) and so much can happen on any specific team that yakking it up about post-season appearances can only be viewed as simple good fun. Let's get to week 12, then the trash talk will begin to have some meaning .... ;)

Certain cities have different expectations. For example, NY, Philly and lately Boston .... simply getting into the post season is not a successful year to fans here, and that goes for football, baseball, basketball, hockey, whatever ... The only thing that matters is the ring, anything less is not acceptable and is viewed as a bad season. Gotta believe that Dallas falls into that same bracket, too.

For some towns, getting over .500 is considered a success. If the Giants go 9-7, Coughlin is fired. If the Browns, Chiefs or Rams post a 9-7 record, everybody gets a raise and starts talking about how great they'll be the next year.

It's all a matter of perspective, winning cultures demand only the absolute best, whereas generally less successful franchises take the rare moments of glory to heart. And while there might not be a "dominant" team right now (Patriots are the only ones in recent years), it's very clear that there is a dominant group of franchises that by and large are successful. Every now and then an outsider strolls into the group (like the Bears did for a while in the late '80's), but overall it's the same teams, year after year, that are EXPECTED to win ...... lately, Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys .... just a fact of life .... :)

For as far back as I can remember Dallas has fallen into that bracket. No SB win = unsucessful season, period. And that goes back to the Tex Schramm/ Tom Landry days.

That's why a 2-2 record is disappointing, and I keep trying to strive the season is 16 games.

Gards beloved Saints have started as well as they are now and missed the postseason twice (although this years squad is the best I've ever seen outta the Superdome). The Cowboys went 13-3 and lost in the first round.

Point is ya never know. YET!

I will however be rootin for the Saints to crush Big Blue in week 6. Don't care for the attitude of Manning.

I hope Sharper gets two more pick 6's, and ol Eli gets that impediment knocked outta him.:D

I still can't get past $97 Mil for old Eli :confused:. Very unusual for the Giants to cough up that kind of coin .... and what you are mistakenly misinterpreting as "attitude" is really a complete lack of any personality ;)

Saints are very good, probably the best team in the NFL right now from what I can tell .... I'm not real intimate with the ins & outs of NO right now, but from what I've seen they are extremely strong. Obviously, somebody is going to lose that game, but even there, a loss by either NY or NO isn't going to end either ones season. Good test for both of them :cool:

Ed, Don't get me wrong, Eli's a damn good QB, I watched him practice/play at Ole Miss. My Pop Roofed one of the buildings there and you could see the field from the roof. Rode up on a forklift and got to watch 'em all day.

I don't care for the "I'm too good to play for you" attitude he gave during the draft. If he'd do that then he'd be rude now. I mean after all his dad played for the Saints:smug:

I'm a Cowboys fan so I like to see NY lose whenever possible (division rivals). The NO/NY game should be the #1 game for media hype in week 6.

My 'Boys gotta get through week 5 though:help:

Yes he is, but I really believe that more than his skill set he is the perfect QB for this particular Giants group. They seem to respond to him extremely well, and I think in large part that's because he has no real public appeal.

The well known "stars" on the Giants don't get shoved to the back of the press releases because Manning is dating a supermodel or getting wasted in clubs. He minds his own business, does a cr*p load of charity work (very quietly) and plays as hard as he can each week.

I'd be really curious how well he would be doing if he was with a different team .... bet it wouldn't be $97 mil worth :eek:

And yeah, Ray, I know just what you mean ..... even if the Giants lose a game it's still a good week to me whenever Dallas and Philly lose ..... :cool:

I think you have it backwards. The Vikings line is not the most skilled, but it has some real maulers. A 3-4 defense likely won't get a lot of push from their D-Line and with the focus really on a short passing game Favre will dink and dump against blitzes. 40 or not, he still knows how to read a defense.

On the other hand, what the Steelers CAN (and IMO should) do is maintain gap discipline and shut down Peterson which can be done. With good offensive production they can put the heat on Favre and hope he has one of his signature 3 INT games.

The truth is I would expect Big Ben to get sacked more in that game that Favre.

True Ben gets sacked alot, he rarely throws the ball away(if at all) and will hang in the pocket until it absoutely breaks down, then he scrambles,dodges,escapes and all that good stuff.

He says his O line gets alot of heat for the sacks he takes but he admits it mostly on him and his desire to make the play. I enjoy watching him do his thing and the ups and downs it brings, but because of that he probably wont ever be considered the *ULTIMATE QB* like Brady and P.Manning do
