NFL Week 9

In talking about the NFC, I forgot. Could you imagine if the Vikings could find a QB, TE, and WR? Hey, I know that that is a tall order, but sign a free agent TE in the offseason, and pick one up on the first day of the draft, and then find themselves a QB in the early part of the draft, or maybe a free agent, and they've really got something going. Minnesota has a solid offensive line, and apparently there's some kid out of OU who is pretty decent at RB. With a QB, look out.

And, also: Invalid Link Removed

Oh man, you're going to really be disappointed when the 'boys come crashing back to reality, aren't you?

It's coming....it's coming....bet on seeing the beginning of it this weekend when the Giants give you loss #2....

Agreed, with an RB like that, they put ANY halfway decent team around him and they're a threat to beat any team in the NFL.

Hopefully, that won't happen soon...

The Saints and the Falcons have the nastiest, yet friendliest rivalry I've ever seen.

We went to a Falcons came against the Saints down in Atlanta. As we went in, we easily saw as much Saints garb as we saw Falcons garb. I mean, little old ladies in their 70's decked out head to toe in Saints merch. And then Falcons families from great grandparents to 1-year-olds in the same group. It was awesome. But the shocker came to us, when we found our seats, and sat back to "absorb the atmosphere"...

...of BITTER CRUEL HECKLING! I mean, HECKLING!!! There were Falcons guys shouting, nay, hollering, at the little old Saints ladies. And they were hollering right back at em! There was the Falcons fan wearing a 4X white t-shirt, with F*** NEW ORLEANS painted as large as can be across his parachute-with-sleeves. And as he walked up the stairs all the way to his nose-bleed seats, he got every curse word slung at him, and was slinging them right back without skipping a beat. Fantastic. Brilliant. Heart-warming. Michigan and Ohio State ain't seen NOTHING like this scene.

The old ladies started chants. The guys mooned each other. Someone with a tub of popcorn "sneezed" his popcorn all over some Falcons fans. Each score was an excuse to get rowdier and louder.

Outside after the game in one of the close parking lots, they were selling Official Falcons Rags. You know... rags for.... um.... product. Yeah. We'll call it product. They were hand towels in the Saints colors with a huge Saints logo right in the middle for you to.... um..... clean up. Yeah. Clean up.

But the whole time, I couldn't believe how all this discourse and viciousness and degrading harassment.... only stirred smiles and laughs. Everyone was ripping on everyone else. And it was all taken in good jest and warming delight. Everyone loved it! Nobody took anything as geniune insults, just seeing who can be the biggest hater in the stadium! Truly inspiring. Denis Leary would have cried tears of joy. Henry Rollins woulda been inspired. Mother Theresa woulda thrown Zagnuts.

Best NFL football game I ever attended.

Gard, are you on one of those Saints Visa commercials?

Nope, but at one point in that commercial, where they're all walking down Bourbon St., you can see the club where I had a house gig for 18 months back in the late 90's.

And Bryan, yeah, you got it right, we HATE the Falcons and their fans, but it's a "love-hate" thing. Something that a lot of folks would just never understand, but we really really enjoy it. And the past few seasons, us Saints fans have REALLY been enjoying it.

:smug:

Don't worry my friend. December 9th is creeping closer and closer every day.

:D

Mike -

you have got to quit fantasizing about the boyz in yellow tights, or check yourself in for some therapy. Outside of these two scenarios ... you sure have a wild imagination

all the best,

I'm a Saints fan, foo....closet Rams fan? That might just earn you a whuppin' when you get settled in Charlotte

do we get to eat BBQ after the whuppin'? :D

sorry to hear of your devotion to the Aint's, Gard ... it's a terrible thing to have such a dysfunctional affection for those who are always leading the divisional tail end or settle for almost. In all my years of commuting to NO (Harahan and Avondale actually) I never saw such devotion for a team that was so consistently beaten ... even fans of the Dirty Birds can admit they have a losing proposition with the exception of a statistical oddity. I never could figure out what was in that swamp water people were drinking that gave them such a loyalty to the boyz of white/black/gold

my devotion in the NFC is clearly rooted with the Titans, so don't go expecting me to be rooting for the kittens when I get to CLT.

Man, first of all, you somehow got the Titans in the NFC....

....so, you lived down in N'awlins too, hm? Well, unlike the Dirty Bird fans, the Black & Gold will actually win a big one sometime in the next few years, so all that suffering we've been doing will pay off.

Not this year, but soon....

....BBQ? Sure, say when! :D

I see my attempt at humor didn't go unnoticed :D

nope - just there on business every other week for several years on end. had a nice deal with two B&B's in the Garden District where I would usually stay at ... almost like family at home I was with them so often.

and that is going to be one expensive cell phone bill when this happens. I anticipate at least 30 unending calls the week after it happens. I mean I heard it non-stop for a week when the Aint's beat the Chickens a few weeks back - and I don't even root for Seattle!

BBQ? Sure, say when! :D

once I get settled in ... I'll slow-cook up a big batch of BBQ sauce and then get the prok ribs cooked and marinating in it. I'll be able to grill at my place or take the bucket on the road to a host grill.

it's a great sauce, BTW. I obtained it from a family that runs a restaurant in Huntsville, AL. It's been in the family restaurant for over four generations, and a staple in their home cooking before that. if you like a hot vinegar based red BBQ sauce I think you'll like this one as I always received compliments even when cooking in Huntsville (another place I once lived)

all the best,

R

Nice man, the Garden District is about the only "real nice" part of the city. What everyone sees in the movies, y'know...when folks that have never been there say "wow, you grew up in New Orleans? That's such a beautiful place!", and you're rolling your eyes and trying to to bust out laughin'.

:D

Heh...yeah, us Saints fans are REAL fans. Sorry, but we're nice folks too...I'd like to think we're worth the aggrivation. :ninja:

We'll figure it out...sadly, I live in a totally vegetarian enviroment (not ME, but my family is), so it won't be at my house....so, sounds like a road trip for me! :)

Anyone else hear that funky sound during the Pats/Colts game? I just saw a story on the news and CBS claimed it was some kind of feedback in the studio only. I thought it sounded like flanged crowd noise. A couple years ago the Steelers accused the Colts of piping in extra crowd noise. I guess there were some accusations last night as well.

maybe coach B was cheating again .... o, wait, NE was the visiting team

so the Colts are cheaters, eh? I bet an investigation on this doesn't go very far before the league conveniently moves on to other things

all the best,

R

If it's proven, yeah that would be cheating. Until then it's hot air.

Why would CBS take the blame if it wasn't their fault? Don't you think they would rather run stories about the Colts (or anybody for that matter) cheating?

Take off the tin-foil hat.

wow A - getting testy with the wrong guy here ... not because I am going to boil over with rage at you, but because I believe coach B was cheating so that he could bestow honor to the teams he was quitel literally creaming on the field ... cheating to keep the score relatively close so that he didn't need to run up the score and disgracing his opponents

since found guilty this is exactly what coach B has done until week 9 when he face a truly viable opponent in the Colts.

pesonally I find it amusing that so many people got soooo worked up over the Pats cheating, only to have the Pats enlarge their average lead once the cameras stopped rolling

:D

and just maybe someone in the Colt stadium (or maybe in the TV trailor) was hoping to do a little payback to NE this past week ... but until the real story comes into the press and CBS decides that coach B isn't GWB (you get the love/hate thingy here between GWB and CBS, right?) we'll just never know what is really being covered up will we? (kinda like Dan Rather taking the blame when the story wasn't his fault if you catch my drift)

Put down the pipe. Cheating to keep the score close? I've now heard everything.

guaranteed there's no pipe here (smoke allergies)

let the stats speak for themselves ... what conclusion is drawn about the cheating charges and the corresponding jump in points per game after coach B was found guilty be to the beholder (but you have to admit it is a very interesting stat, if purely just a coincidence)

all the best,

R
