NHL 2008

Don't look now but the Wings just passed San Jose and Boston for the best record. I really don't think it matters a whole lot wether or not they finish with the best record (it matters more to San Jose who don't seem to be able to win at the Joe). But they seem to be dwelling at the right time.

Don't look now, but we tied your points and Boston overtook you guys...

Meh... sharks are playing like crap now... They better not pull a sharks this year again.

Good for Phoenix.

They were the real winners at this deadline.

Unlike other bubble teams, they essentially admitted that this isn't their year, which is the truth. At least they don't have some Oilers-esque ridiculous dreams of winning.

Why bother even playing the rest of the games in the regular season? Just forget the fans of these so-called "bubble" teams. They don't deserve the excitement of a possible upset in the playoffs.

Going by your logic Columbus,Edmonton,Dallas, Nashville,Anaheim,Minny,St.Louis in the west and Florida, Montreal, Carolina, NYR, Pittsburgh and Buffalo in the east shouldn't even consider making the playoffs. They're just going to lose.:rollno: All those teams in the west are within 6 pts. of each other. The teams in the east are three pts. apart.

Think back three years ago. The "bubble" team Oilers just made the playoffs and came within one game of winning the Stanley Cup. That's why they make trades at the deadline.

Another game, another win. All of the sudden these guys have come alive. Todays win was extra impressiv eot me considering how physical the Cap's played us. They came right out and were sticking it to us. Kennedy got blasted once and the glass fell out of the frame.

The new guys, Kuntiz and Guerin, made contributions and the rest of the team played great I thought. We're only one point out of fifth now in the East. Wow....unbelievable. But Carolina is still right there on our heels.

Someone is a sad panda. Get over it, the Oilers are terrible.

The Oilers coming "within one game of winning" doesn't change the fact that they lost. Why did they lose? Because they are losers. Clearly.

For the record, I was generously giving the Coyotes the title of a "bubble team", as it is inevitable they will fall short. 9 points back at this point is a joke. I said that unlike those teams, the Coyotes have admitted that this isn't their year. That was what the trades signify, that they are going to rebuild. They didn't both with the whole, "we'll load up and pray to god we make the playoffs", crap that other teams have done in the past, they threw the towel in. In a conference that is so close, conceding as they did gains them some respect from me. By bowing out, the race will be more exciting for the others involved.

Nowhere did I state that other bubble teams (particularly the ones that "loaded up") should quit. If they were to have traded one of their highest scorers for a draft pick, perhaps I would have.

That's weird. You said you were going to go by my logic, but you didn't. It's almost as though you missed the point entirely. Huh. You should probably work on that.

What does that statement mean then? Other than a hatred of the Oilers. The only sad pandas on here would be Flames fans.

Actually, I like the Oilers.

I just find it cute that over the past couple of years (since the run) they seem to think that they have a chance, despite making few/no notable improvements to the team, coaching, or strategy.

With that in mind, I can appreciate what the Coyotes are doing.

If it makes you feel better, my psychic powers tell me that Calgary won't win anything.

Not sure how I skipped this thread but, Right On Mike!!! The first period was a hit fest and the others weren't bad either. The O.T. and shootout was just nuts, I couldn't sit down. Both goalies played exceptionally well also I thought. Oh and coming away from 5 games with 10 points?
GO PENS!!!

Your like of the Oilers is overwhelming despite the fact that they're "terrible and "clearly losers". ;)

Slightly off topic, but I saw that 20 year old injury to Clint Malarchuk for the first time today. I've heard about it for years but never seen it. Man was that ever scary to see. It made my brother a bit nauseous, and he isn't the squeamish type.

I've seen that clip....very scary. Awfully hard to conceal that pool on the ice.

A similar type injury occurred to Richard Zednik last year.

I saw an interview with Malarchuk a few years ago and that injury screwed him up royally. It obviously shortened his career but it turned him into an obsessive/compulsive as well. He said he still woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Sad story.:(

Yup. They are pretty terrible this season. I would love to see them rebuilt. Maybe then I'd having something to honestly cheer for.

And the whole "the Oilers are losers" was more a reference to the cup run...also, it is a messed up chicken and egg thing for me. Are they losers because they lost, or did they lose because they are losers?

Anywhoo, this was fun.

Carbo is getting the axe so Gainey can seem like a white knight riding in to save the day (and his job). Imho he's been mediocre at best as the Canadien's GM. If the Habs don't win at least 2 rounds, I'd expect Gainey to be gone as well.

I missed the Pens game live Tuesday night, but it was a good one in the Igloo. The Panthers come out in the 2nd and just blow our doors off scoring three unanswered goals. I thought we were done for, but we came back and took it in a SO.

One of the most impressive wins I have seen this season. Watch out Eastern Conf.....watch out.
