Avs still didn't get rid of that Stastny boat anchor. Gotta be one of the more overrated players in the league. Tanguay is back though. We'll see how that works out.

Why the **** did my Kings sign Carcillo? The only thing this goon can do is put up major penalties and get ejected. The NHL has changed - you don't HAVE to have a guy on your team anymore just to fill the role of enforcer/agitator...Carcillo is an idiot. He will hinder the team with his PM's MUCH more than helping it. I don't know what they were thinking.
That is who I would go with as well. The better question is who should start for Canada in net? I can't seem to come up with an answer for that one.

lol Carbomb. I actually was a fan when he was in Philly, penalties and all. The guy is definitely prone to detonation, but he's got a bit of a scoring touch compared to other agitators. If he can keep his head screwed on, he can be an effective bottom six forward. He's even moved up lineups briefly due to injury.
Of course, sometimes he does something like lay siege to the referees lockerroom and gets a suspension for the next season
I agree the NHL enforcer is a dinosaur, but I think there's a place for agitators. The thing is, they have to be able to skate a regular shift on a third or fourth line.
So what were the Kings thinking? I dunno, Richie and Carts needed a roommate?

Went to a MLB game yesterday afternoon at the company suite. Afternoon game, good time, but definitely not hockey! (still better than being at work on overload)
And razzies to 9 or so of the coworkers who left ebfore the 9th inning with the Tigers down by 3. Tigers won you buttheads!

I think Luongo is going to take that cake with Crawford backing him up. Though your right it is going to be interesting to see who they actually start, either one is more than capable. I just don't see Price or Holtby being in the running, Smith could contend.
I would love to see Marty on the team again, but I don't think he will start. Canada could have two teams of skaters that would end up playing for gold, but we are weak in goalies.

Can somebody give me a little "hockey pool 101" crash course? Looks like I'll be partaking in one for the first time this year, few buddies asked me.
I'm clueless... Anybody has some decent spreadsheets to play the numbers against them?

I'm assuming you're talking about fantasy hockey? It really depends on how your league is set up. How heavily weighted your goalies are, how many people are in the league, how many goalies you can take, if you use anything other than offensive stats for points (this will determine how important D men are, or how valuable the few D men who actually score a lot of points are), etc.
One thing that usually happens in my hockey pool every year is someone doesn't draft enough starting goalies or gets an injury and can't consistently play enough starting goalies, due to the nature of the position.
Also, if someone on your team is playing above their normal level, it's usually a good idea to trade them for someone who may not be performing as well but is a more consistent player. Last year I started off with both Marleau and Thornton and I was tearing up my entire league. I knew I should have traded them while they were hot, but instead tried to ride them all season and it obviously didn't work out too well.
I've never really found a solid strategy for drafting. I normally leave the default auto draft order up, with some minor adjustments. I make sure I remove any player that I know has a serious injury going into the season, and I also remove any players that I hate or play for teams that I absolutely just cannot cheer for. I don't care how many goals Hartnell scores in a season, I'll throw up if I have to cheer for him, so I remove him from my list.
After a few years in my league of never getting enough points from goalies, I drafted Lundqvist and Rask in back to back rounds, since I had a later pick and missed out on Crosby, Ovi, Malkin, Stamkos, etc. It worked really well, and I came in second, but goalies are weighted pretty heavily in our league.
