NHL 2013 off season thread

I have only played the NHL 94 Anniversary Mode so far. I already wrote my initial feelings about it somewhere else, so I'll just copy paste:

Picked this up yesterday. Haven't even played the normal NHL 14 mode, just the Anniversary NHL 94 mode. Graphics are awesome, game is a little more difficult than before. You can deke with L1 and spin move by tapping L2 on PS3, and there's "auto checking" by skating into a guy, so you can spam the speed button and run into people without having to press the checking button. Otherwise the controls are basically the same.

Game feels faster. Can't just take control of one guy and fly all over the ice killing everyone, but you can still crush people. Fights are pretty fun. Took me a few games to keep the CPU from beating the **** out of me. Feels like it's a lot easier for the CPU to score on you.

Movement controls are more appropriate for a modern game than compared to NHL 94. You can actually stop on a dime and change directions, and skating is more accurate.

So, it doesn't feel exactly like NHL 94 with updated graphics, but it is pretty damn fun. I'll get around to playing normal mode eventually haha.

I would have thought that just about any team except the Bruins would be interested in a former Vezina winner a couple years removed from a Stanley Cup victory. He is a bit of a head case, but aren't most NHL goaltenders a bit odd? There aren't many teams were he wouldn't be helpful as a backup and I would think that there are more than a few teams where he could be an upgrade at #1. Seems like a low downside; high upside risk to me.

I hope he catches on someplace and plays well (except against the Bruins), when he is on his game, he is a great goalie, And even if he struggles, he is always competing hard and is entertaining to watch.

Was there any discussion of Thomas for your teams? What were the reasons that they didn't offer him a tryout? Any fan revolts for teams that have shaky netminders?

He's 39, had the benefit of playing behind one of the best defenses in the league for his entire NHL career, is a public nutcase, is a poor teammate (the whitehouse thing), and just decided to take a year off when he had a year left on his contract. I wouldn't touch him with a 20 foot pole. Excited to watch him earn a 4 GAA in Florida.

Also, has nothing to do with him being a Bruin. Tukka is one of my favorite goalies. I can't stand Thomas for all the reasons listed above.

The only thing I don't like about him is that he put his political beliefs in front of his teammates. Then instead of covering it with tact he chose to make his beliefs public in a political statement.

I hope he does well although the odds are against him. From a pure injury point of view, I'm concerned he'll start having hip and groin issues.

I never got the sense that Thomas was a bad teammate, more that he was an odd duck and not what most people would consider a good teammate. As a top #1, a team could with it. As a #2 or a run-of-mill #1, maybe he isn't worth the risk unless he can prove he can be a bit more team and teammate friendly. I do hope he lands somewhere and is a positive force on that team.

The "Bad Teammate" thing bugs me. First of all, Tim didn't (or at least tried not to) speak about why he gave Obama the cold shoulder, the media had to drag it out of him. He tried to keep it to himself and never mentioned his fellow teammates.
Secondly, that year he was one of 2 or 3 American born players on the Bruins; the 80% of the other guys are from Canada and Europe so I doubt they cared too much to meet the President.

None of us know how it all went down in the locker room, but him being labeled a bad teammate is unfair to Tim, in my view.

Note: Super hypocritical of the Boston media to slam him like they did, seeing how Theo Epstien (Sox GM) blew off G.W. Bush TWICE and never got flack from it.

Aside from the one incident of the white house boycott I have NO reason to think he was a positive influence in the locker.He played for ONE organization for a long time,that does not say pain in the ass.

Again IHO it's going to be about injuries. He stays healthy and Florida gets a deal.

As far as the Bruins being "classy". Let's talk a about Seguin. They are willing to talk crap about a player they let go that they are pissed at.
