NHL 2013 regular season thread!

Did anybody see Sergei Kostitsyn's behavior?

During a Nashville/Edmonton game, SK is back-checking on Gagner who's carrying the puck, but SK gives up on the play and goes for a change!! This creates a 2-on-1 which resulted in a goal.

SK is quite the head-case. He's lazy, entitled, and has had ties to organized crime. Though he's getting older, he's quite immature and doesn't seem to care about anybody but himself. Instead of working his butt off to neutralize the puck carrier, he just gave up. I've never seen that before! I'll be surprised if he's still in the NHL in the next couple of years. He'll most likely be bought out and will end up playing in the KHL where he'll fade into obscurity.

As a Sabres fan, what's your take on the Miller/Kaleta situation? I don't like how Miller handled it myself.
I don't see a problem with it as Kaleta is not only one of the league's dirtiest players (and a real scumbag) but is now having a tantrum in front of the media.

Miller calling him out is symptomatic of the season they're having in Buffalo. There is SO much talent on that roster and it baffles me that they're having such a bad season. Miller, however, seems to enjoy mouthing off his thoughts to the media and he himself needs some restraint in that regard.

Vanek has been playing sloppily for the past while, though Ennis is developing nicely. Watched the 2nd period of the Sabres/Caps game before I had to head out. Both teams were playing really really badly.

From the outside looking in, I think the season is done in Buffalo and it's time for a rebuild. The Caps need to get rid of Ovechkin at this point. IMHO, he doesn't seem to display the work ethic and drive to get this team into high gear. He himself has lost the jump he had early in his career and to top it all off, he whined that the refs were specifically targeting the Caps in regards to penalties given.

Trade deadline is ten days away. It will be interesting to see if any if the would be free agents get traded.

I still haven't seen the Kane goal. I need to check it out and see how it compares to the Malkin goal a couple weeks ago.

I don't know what to make of Ovechkin anymore. Massive talent, but he just doesn't seem like a team player. He plays hard when I've watched their games.

Ovechkin has let himself go. There are pics online of him gaining weight. He used to be ripped. He's still a big body and he tries to add some physicality here and there, but he needs 3 secs to shoot and everybody knows how to play against him ; limit his space and be in front of his stick (as opposed to his body) and the shots just won't happen.

Always was attracted to the rockstar lifestyle and when asked which player he likes to watch the most, he said "me." A real shame. Really loved his enthusiasm when he first got into this league, but he's much slower than before and there isn't much to celebrate in Washington anymore.

Hey, an NHL thread, whaddya know. Howdy guys! I'm a full season ticket holder for the Columbus Blue Jackets. It's been a bitter and terrible ride here the last decade. On the plus side, Bobrovsky has been phenomenal the last couple of weeks, to the point where we're only two points out of 8th in the West, even though we can't score goals. Like, at all.

Is he the guy they picked up last year in some loophole around the draft? I thought they dumped him last season after some off the field issues?
I believe you might be referring to Radulov.

He was touted as being the most talented player in the world not currently playing in the NHL. After a brief stint with the Predators, he decided to opt for the KHL. He was worth quite a bit to the Preds. Some speculated they might trade his rights to get a 2nd-round pick.

He came back and had a very very poor showing. He retreated to the KHL once more. I believe the Preds still have the rights to this player, but his worth isn't much anymore. He was very VERY lazy in his back-checking and didn't seem to gel with his teammates whether it be on a personal level or on-ice chemistry.

Not a big loss.

SK will probably mirror Radulov's career path. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.

The GM needs to be shown the door. Lots of bad moves over the years.

The Ducks just re-signed Perry to a contract almost identical to Getzlaf'. The Blue Jackets should show some serious interest for this winger. They should also re-sign Letestu who's a solid 2nd-line player who won't cost much. Let Prospal walk at the end of the season. He's old and not worth the 2.2m or so he's being paid. IMHO, they should push hard to see if anybody's interested in getting their dead wood such as Dubinsky and Umberger.

It'll take a few years before they can be a good team IF they're managed well ; i.e. through the draft. They need to develop their prospects well and carefully choose them. Big-time contracts shouldn't be offered to any unproven players.

I'm undecided as to what they should do with Mason, but considering he's an RFA at the end of the season, they should offer him roughly less than what he's currently making. It'd probably go into arbitration but he's got a lot to prove. In the meantime, they should dangle him at the trade deadline in case anybody would like to tackle his salary. Bobrovsky isn't the future by any means, but you need to hurt before you can get better.

Hello McFly......Tampa Bay beat the Flyers last night, not the Pens.

However, there was an empty net goal in the last game between Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh. You probably don't want to brag about that one though. :D

Love this gif. Everything happened perfectly for this to just glide through. Vokoun came pretty close to kicking it in with both skates, and if the puck hadn't hit Niskanen's stick it probably would have gone in.
