NHL 2013 regular season thread!

We already fired the GM a couple weeks ago, Proposal is earning his next contact every night he's on the ice, Mason will not get a contract from any NHL team (especially this one), and why can't Bob be the future in goal? He's only 24.
Oh right... Forgot he was fired, but it was a month ago. Good riddance.

Prospal is somebody I'd dump in the off-season. If they're going to keep him, I'd stick him on the 2nd line and diminish his playing time. He's a good spare wheel to have in case of 1st-line players going down to injuries. Right now, he's playing way too long and at this point in the season, I'd prefer it if the coaching staff focused on playing the youngsters more as they have nothing to lose.

Hopefully, they can use their amnesty buyouts on Umberger and Dubinsky as they've been both awful and have been overrated for a while.

Mason might get a backup gig with one of the more desperate teams in need of a goaltender. The Oilers for instance will part for sure with Khabibulin once the season ends. He's 40 and has had a seesaw season so far. Dubnick is far from ready to be a dedicated #1. A change of scenery could potentially reboot Mason's career and push Dubnick a bit. I could see something like that happening.

As for Bobrovsky, I'm not convinced that he can carry the load of being the #1 for a team for a whole season. Maybe a tandem like the Blues are doing might be a bit easier to manage? He's playing well now, but I've seen plenty of goalies who played well in a stretch leading to the end of the season get overrated and play on an average level afterwards. I'd use caution, personally...

Nobody knows if Bob is ready to be a number one for a full season, but he's earned the right to get a real shot at it. He's been nothing short of the best goalie in the league this month. Granted, it's only a couple weeks of a hot streak, which any player can go on, but like I said he's young and earning his chance to be the guy.

Prospal has been way better than a guy his age had any right to be. If he can play at near this level next year, there's no way we dump him. Columbus isn't exactly flush with scoring winger talent!

Miller's backpedaling...

"What I was told he said and what he actually said were two different things," Miller said Monday night on the team's website. "What he actually said sounded more like a player who just wants to come back and play as soon as possible. He's frustrated he can't be, which is completely what you'd expect.

"I think everyone in Buffalo knows I'm prone to say stupid things that come up over the course of the season," Miller added.

Hey, an NHL thread, whaddya know. Howdy guys! I'm a full season ticket holder for the Columbus Blue Jackets. It's been a bitter and terrible ride here the last decade. On the plus side, Bobrovsky has been phenomenal the last couple of weeks, to the point where we're only two points out of 8th in the West, even though we can't score goals. Like, at all.

Don't rub it in says this Flyers fan! :bawl:

Hey, you guys got Voracek from us, and he's been doing fairly well, yeah? We got that punk beeyotch Jeff Carter, but we flipped him for Jack Johnson and this year's first from LAK.
We're very happy to have "that punk beeyotch", thank you very much. He keeps putting pucks into the net - goal and an asisst last night. Jack Johnson has not been missed.

I don't see a problem with it as Kaleta is not only one of the league's dirtiest players

You really think so? I mean, he is, by no means, a clean player, but I don't think I would call him one of the league's dirtiest. He's great at instigating, aggravating, and inciting the other team, but I don't necessarily think he's dirty about it.

Maybe that's just a Sabres fan talking...

*Yes. The recent hit that got him suspended was clearly uncalled for, out of place, suspend-able, etc. No question.

Yes, you most likely have your Sabres fan cap on, because he's known throughout the league for being a cheapshot artist.

Here's a headbutt, a.k.a. unacceptable in hockey - HIS 3RD SUSPENSION ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MksKhL_hvIk

Here's a blindside elbow to the head ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LddSUoHUqq4

Here's another headbutt on Zajac - SUSPENSION ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TlP4eVkSOE

Charges & jumps from his feet leading with his elbow onto an opposing player's face ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et1gnpxXnKM

Here he is with a blindside elbow on Kariya ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRoJnAipEoU

And there's more. Sorry, but the guy is THE dirtiest player in the league. It's not even debatable. Sure hope that guy gets tossed out of the NHL. Nobody likes him, not even his own teammates.

Just wait until things aren't going his way, or the team is doing poorly. His true colors will reappear.
You mean like when the Kings started with only 5 wins in 13 games and Jeff Carter had 5 points in 10 games?

Things weren't exactly rosy then for him or the team.

He has 16 points in 18 games since then. Not bad for somebody who plays 2nd-line minutes.

Surprise tix from my wife's co-worker to the Kings-Coyotes game tonight - 9 rows off the glass in the corner. Sweet!!
Awesome!

Look for Boedker. Great speed, though he needs to be surrounded by good players if he's ever to develop into a good player.

Apart from him and Yandle, there's Ekman-Larsson who's awesome.

Lucky you. I'm assuming LaBarbara will be in nets since Smith had such a bad night last game.

Misc...

- Trotz says that Sergei Kostitsyn is "absolutely not" playing next game. lol!!! Well deserved, IMHO.

- With Getzlaf and Perry signed, I can't see how the Ducks could keep Bobby Ryan. Wonder if they'll be able to trade him before the deadline.

- Is Ovechkin done as an elite player? I personally think so. He's still first-line material, but nowhere near the top of the league.

- Crosby now has 48 points, which is the amount of games there will be this season. And he has 18 more games to go. Siiiiick!

- Getlzaf scored his 11th goal yesterday, which is the amount he had last season after the full 82 games. Crazy.

- If anybody's a fan of the old NHL '94 on SNES or Genesis consoles, check this quick video made by the folks at NHL.com - hilarious! ; Invalid Link Removed

Looks like LA is retiring this jersey. Ugly or beautiful?

I agree that Smith didn't look too sharp, but the goals the Kings scored last night would be challenging for anyone. I expect LaBarbara for Phoenix and Bernier for the Kings.

I think those jerseys are fine, but a change of scenery isn't the worst thing that could happen.
