NHL 2013 regular season thread!

Saw the last period of the Flyers/Pens game. Very exciting. Kunitz & Crosby are almost telepathic (as I said before)!
Martin was by far the best d-man on the ice.

I just realized who the Pens gave up for Brenden. I don't like it, but this Pens team has suffered from a lack of veteran leadership since Guerin left.

Marchand replaces Lucic on the Krecji-Horton line. This becomes a fast skilled line.
Paille replaces Marchand on the Bergeron-Seguin line. Great opportunity for Paille to play with more talented linemates and show what he can do.
Lucic down to third line with Peverly and Caron.
While it is a gamble to break up the Bergeron line that has been playing so well - the rest of the team needs some shaking up so I'm on board for seeing how this works out.
If there is a level that is above Concern but below Panic - that is about where the B's are at the moment.
The potential positive side for Lucic is that he can be a bit freer with the physical game which is where his offense starts from.

Hahahahaha! Huge win for Pittsburgh last night considering the Flyers basically own the Penguins in the CONSOL Energy Center.
There's a few guys on the Flyers I feel sorry for, but most of them I sure don't.

Fully expect Coburn to be suspended for boarding Dupuis. That was scary. Hate to see anyone go down lifeless like that. Glad to see Duper back in the game and setting up the screen for the GWG in OT though!
2 minutes for stick checking in last night's game??? Wimpy call. Great refereeing up to that point by putting the whistles away and letting them play but to end it on a ticky tack call like that? Yeah, technically a penalty, but c'mon! You have to hold on to your stick with two hands.
Coburn - 2 to 4 games is my estimate. Dupuis should have played dead longer.

Call me a fuddy-duddy if you will but I don't cheer for anybody specifically. I simply enjoy the show. Great goals, saves, plays are why I love watching NHL hockey.
Kovalev officially announced his retirement. My oh my, what a career he could've had if he had only applied himself more.

Guerin is the current player development coach and is very active within the team and organization. I don't think it is publicized very often, but I contribute some of Crosby's success to Guerin. He was an incredible mentor for him when he needed one the most, and has helped him grow as a player. I was really happy when the Pens hired him on after he retired.
Sit back and enjoy the show, lots of great players on the ice in a game like that. I am jealous, so you know.

My wife is scheduled to work Sunday and is trying desperately to get off. She gets first crack at the other ticket, if she can't go my 29 year old son goes also a Flyer fan who lived in the Chicago area for a year and a half.

Pens trade a 2nd round pick and conditional 2nd round pick for Douglas Murray. Shero is doing a good job beefing up the Penguins toughness before the playoffs.
Toronto-Boston started off like a repeat of Saturday's game - Boston with more chances but Toronto with more goals. However, Lucic scored the first B goal and it was like a giant weight off his (and the team's) shoulders. Bergeron got the tying goal on a nice feed from behind the goal from Defenseman Dougie Hamilton. At this point I don't mind Toronto taking a point - they deserved it with great goaltending and accurate shooting when they had their chances. Glad that the B's were able to take the extra point in the shootout.
The line switches seemed to work in the "lets shake up the team" aspect and I like Lucic on the 3rd line. For whatever reason, he was moving his skates and when he does he is a very good player.

B's are looking at Iginla from Calgary and Clowe from San Jose. Pens might be looking at Iginla too, and Habs are rumored to be looking at Clowe. The price is high for Iginla, but he certainly could help.
Can't see Pens trading for Iginla at this point. Before trading for Morrow and Murray sure, but not now. Getting Iginla would be going in a different direction than Shero seems to be aiming. I think he's only "interested" to raise the price for other teams.
He's paying a hefty price for those rentals.
Not smart to jeopardize your future for the chance at one Cup.
Of importance so far, they've traded away star-to-be D-man Joe Morrow and a 2nd-round pick for two has-been rentals. There's a possibility switching environments could at least temporarily revitalize their production/effectiveness, but I'm a bit skeptical.
Time will tell, I guess.
