NHL 2013 regular season thread!

B's are looking at Iginla from Calgary and Clowe from San Jose. Pens might be looking at Iginla too, and Habs are rumored to be looking at Clowe. The price is high for Iginla, but he certainly could help.
Clowe is done and will be great again. He's bruised up and slow as hell.

Iginla's a notoriously slow starter, but his production has been sliding. Granted, he plays on the Flames, but he's supposed to be the type who makes others look good ; not the type heavily depending on his linemates.

Thanks. This prompted me to look up stats. Clowe has no goals - that doesn't sound like the answer to me. Iginla is clearly fading but it gives you an idea of how anemic the B's offense is - Iginla at 9 G and 13 A would be tied for 3rd on goals and tied for 4th on points if he were on the Bruins. That sounds more like it.

He might be open to an extension, that would help justify a high price. I've heard they want Subban's little brother who is only 18 but could be a great goalie some day and additional players. I think we are fine on goalies for the immediate future so I think the B's would part with him, the question is how much else the Flames want to go along with him.

Last night the Flyers absolutely embarrassed themselves and their fans.

Poor Simminds was the only one to show up and for his effort got a boatload of stitches in his upper lip and then had to be redone. Thank you Luke Schenn for blindly trying to celar the puck you lazy ___!!!

I gave up on even watching the games about 3 weeks ago. Can't even handle it.

For me, it was the best Penguins game of the year so far. 1-0 games are the ultimate for me. Disappointing about Fleury, but impressive how Voukon came in and stopped 15 shots just in the third alone.

Now I need to go check on the latest Fleury, Letang, and Malkin news.

Don't think you can blame Schenn for this at all. NHL hockey is the fastest game on earth and you don't have time to look up and make sure that nobody's in the way. The puck needed to be cleared so he did it. It was unfortunate that Simmonds was where he was.

As a sidenote, Simmonds doesn't wear a visor and still didn't when he came back. He made his decision like a big boy and getting stitches are the risk he takes everytime he steps onto the ice without a visor. When he came back, he *still* wasn't wearing one!

13 in a row for the Pens but at possibly a high price. Letang re-aggravated his groin injury and broke a toe, and MAF may be injured.
Yep. Don't even know how he broke the toe. Hope he's not becoming the Penguins' version of Green.

MAF was bowled over by Kennedy and took forever to get up. Finishing the period was a dumb move even if there were a few secs left. Vokun is awesome. He's been solid everywhere he went. I'm not convinced he's a #1 goalie but as a backup, you couldn't do better, except for maybe Schneider. ;)

So, how about them Leafs? Seem to be doing mighty fine with the two goalies that they have. If they stay healthy, the could go a few rounds deep.
Uh, actually, the Leafs have terrible goalies. Reimer has been particularly lucky and/or playing over his head in the last while, but it won't last forever. He's not particularly athletic and even has a weird way of holding his glove.

The only organization that seems to be going through goalies as much as the Leafs is the Flyers. The Leafs will probably try to sign Khabibulin in the off-season in spite of him being 40. They need somebody to show the youngsters how it's done and in the meantime, as a backup, he'd be rock-solid.

I don't expect the Leafs to go very far in the Playoffs, personally. They have very ordinary centermen, inconsistent wingers, and goaltender issues.

But... it'll be nice to have one extra Canadian team in the Playoffs this year. :)

Trade deadline is a week away.

Any big names oh expect to see move?

Any sleepers?
Jussi Jokinen was put on waivers. I'd expect that somebody will nab him. He's a good secondary-scoring player.

But,... let me check something. $3 million/year with another year left. On second thought, if the Hurricanes put him on re-entry waivers, then for *sure* a team will nab him, but not at his current salary. Or maybe the Panthers will take a chance on him. They've got next to nobody and have a history of taking in other team's dead wood.

Iginla will probably get traded.

Getzlaf and Perry have both been signed and that has essentially put an end to any huge transaction possibilities.

As for sleepers, you'll see a couple of "plumbers" or spark plugs here and there being traded. These sometimes feel like lateral moves to me, though. I suspect a few teams will end up trading 3rd or 4th-liners for draft picks or future considerations.

Didn't think there was anything overtly dirty from Gionta, but the Pens sure did and it's not like Fleury would be the first goalie he's taken out! Regardless, was funny watching Gionta get punked by the entire team.
